Holiday Rental House
Orchard Cottage is a delightful retreat in the grounds of historic West Stow Hall. The open plan kitchen / living area is fully equipped so Christmas dinner should be no problem! With its full length double doors it is cool on the hottest day whilst there is oil fired central heating for the depths of winter. Both bedrooms are light and airy and have their own en-suite shower rooms with powerful showers and plenty of built in storage space. We hope guests find the cottage as pretty and relaxing as we do. It is lovely sitting on the terrace listening to nothing but bird song or studying the stars with only the call of the owls to break the silence. Though there is wifi and freesat TV the modern world can seem a million miles away.More

Interaction with guests
Andy and I own and live in the Hall so we are usually around if anything needs sorting or to offer advice but equally unless you need us we might only way to wave to each other when coming home or going out! We will welcome you and explain how things work and are always happy to offer suggestions as to places to visit or where to eat. Many people are also interested in our home as it is so historic and timie permitting, we are usually able to show them the rare wall paintings. We are Alamo members of Invitation To View so some forward planning guests have booked their stays to coincide with a tour and had the whole 2 hour experience!

About the neighbourhood
West Stow is ideally suited for those who enjoy walking, birdwatching, fishing, horse riding and golf. There is fly fishing at the end of the drive at Larkwood fisheries, the Kings Forest is a five minute walk whilst riding lessons and hacking is available at either Culford Riding school or West Stow equestrian centre. We are surrounded by excellent golf courses! Lackford lakes iare a two minute drive and offer wonderful bird watching experiences. The only Anglo- Saxon village in England is to be found in West Stow. Interesting in its own right it has wonderful events and re- enactments during the summer. Though younger guests would probably be just as happy playing in the super playground.
Getting around
Bury St. Edmunds, a lovely, historic town which is well worth a visit is only a 15 mins drive whilst Cambridge, Newmarket and Lavenham are 30 mins away. All are accessible by public transport. There is a frequent train service and good bus service from Bury. We are ideally suited for visiting many NT properties including Ickworth ,Long Milford and Anglesey Abbey. The heritage coast including Aldburgh, Southwold and Holkham make very enjoyable days out.
