New to the market. A piece of heaven on the side of a hill with views to die for. Two bedrooms with beds for 7 people. As well as a cot bed and two extra double air-mattresses, both on request if a larger group. Only up the hill from both Baltimore and the famous Lough Hyne Nature Reserve a beautiful walk away . A short boat trip to both Cape Clear and Sherkin Islands. A great base for seeing all West Cork on both land and sea. Everyone comes back. :)

HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL!
We had a booking made for a busy bank holiday weekend this coming June only to receive a text (four weeks after I made my booking) to let me know it was being cancelling as they were double booked. Richard took no accountability for the error and merely said this was “out of his hands”, appauling customer service! I highlighted it was highly unprofessional that I was only hearing this 4weeks after my booking was made and I was informed by Richard this delay was because he was “on holidays”. Having this information sent to me over text message without the decency for a phone call was also unacceptable customer service when I mentioned this to Richard and asked he to call me to discuss he said he was “working in a shop”. As the weekend in question was a bank holiday and we were not given adequate notice of the cancellation we were unable to find alternative suitable accommodation. Hugely disappointing! Personally I was shocked a provider operating at this level is even listed on the booking. com platform but my advice to all would be steer clear in order to avoid disappointment.

Dirty place, not uptodate with current comfort levels, nice surroundings
The house was dirty, smelling, dog's hair and spider webs everywhere. There are broken, useless things and clutter in the cupboards, in the living room, in the side room where you can keep a dog. The lamps are full of dust, the couches are smelly and old, same for the carpet. The gas stove is old and dangerous, it has no security. We tried to use a bowl that was on the cupboard, it was just sticking to it. Walls are dirty. Upstairs a lot of dust as well, less clutter. The children matrasses are not good. The glass waste of the previous guests is outside just next to the house. They have three lovely dogs but their 'waste' is left everywhere. We complained and we got the deal to clean ourselves, which we preferred, we got 100€ and 2 bottles of wine. But after hovering twice it was clear there was just no beginning as it was clear it has not been maintained and cleaned thoroughly since long. We just do not understand they got such a high score. It must have been nice at the beginning but it needs a major upgrade which we also told the hosts. It is so that the surroundings are nice and the hosts are friendly. If you have dogs and you do not mind that the house is stuffy and smelling of dogs, it's the place to go. We decided to leave when we found somewhere else to stay.We were at another location in Ireland the week before and we paid 200€ less and it was spotless.

I’m so sorry to hear about your stay. It’s funny how all summer everyone is happy and giving 5 star reviews and suddenly you come along and find problems no one else has. But I had a feeling when we talked nothing would make you happy. That’s why I offered you a full refund the day you arrived and you turned me down. I had a look in line that day and there were 7 other places in Baltimore you could have moved too. You were just the type of people looking for a free holiday. If you look on all sites we get 5 star reviews?? But I guess they are all wrong !!! Haha. Maybe you’d be better off staying in a 5 star hotel. Or at home!!

Quite enjoyable!
Perfect ending to a 12 day visit to Ireland. Lots of room for the four of us, great kitchen, great views. Richard supplied us with ideas for exploring the area and their three dogs gave us some much missed animal attention. You can even walk up the road behind the house for great views of the ocean! There is about a five minute drive (for us Americans that must drive slowly on the narrow roads) to the town of Baltimore where you can sit on the square and enjoy your drinks or catch a ferry to Sherkin Island or go whale watching. Very relaxing.

Irish paradise
It is what it says, a boat house. V spacious living area, terrace at front with breathtaking views ( note owner lives next door). Bathroom spacious and good electric shower. Kitchen space is huge. Staircase up to large open bedroom with huge bed and eaves to floor. All wood. Door opens to front bedroom with collection of kids beds. Double bed, though, but it could do with a new mattress if an adult using it. Owner’s are delightful, their crazy dogs more so! Nothing too much trouble. Able to use their washing machine as we were there over a week. House is up in hill just outside Baltimore. 5 min walk leads to views of Atlantic dawn. Spectacular sunsets as you just sit on terrace. Baltimore is a foodies paradise, a walker’s dream and the best holiday I’ve had in decades.

A home from home, with stunning views.
The Cedar Boathouse was the perfect escape for a family holiday (2 adults and our 2 dogs!) with everything to make it a home away from home. The setting was breathtaking, with views over Baltimore and Sherkin Island. It was a great base to explore West Cork - Inchydoney, Clonakilty, Schull, Bantry and beyond. Richard gave us a lovely welcome, and was on hand if we needed anything. The honesty bar was also a very welcome when we wanted wine, but had forgotten to visit the shop! I would recommend The Cedar Boathouse to anyone looking for a complete break from a busy life! Hopefully we will make it back soon.

Fab!
Had a great family holiday at Cedar Boat House. Nothing was too much trouble for Richard and Yvonne. Great hosts. Together with their children and all the pets, they ensured we had a comfortable and fun holiday. The Boat House itself is very comfortable and cosy. Reminiscent of little house on the prairy! We'll be back next time we're in west cork

Slice of heaven and true hospitality
I truly don't know where to begin. Richard is a born people person and has been by far, the most outstanding and wonderful host I've ever had. To start talking about his sense of hospitality and care would take pages upon pages. Even prior to arrival, he was full of recommendations for outstanding restaurants (knowing that I was a chef and found this part of my stay important), at which I have never had such magical meals, recommendations for things to see (the area in one word STUNNING) and made sure that we had all the info we needed to feel that our vacation would be a good one. He waited for us in his car just to make sure we had arrived at the correct turn off so led us to the cottage (whose pictures simply don't do it justice). We were in a car accident 1.5 hours away and Richard even drove all the way to pick us up to ensure we wouldn't be stranded. He and Yvonne invited us into their own home and spent time with us as if we were old friends. We shared our stories, countless episodes full of laughter and ended up sharing one of the most magical vacations I have ever had. Anyone who comes in contact with Yvonne and Richard are truly lucky and anyone who stays here will leave feeling as if they have just seen the most beautiful territory on earth.

Honeymoon
Cedar Boathouse was where we decided to go after getting married in Kerry. It is a very peaceful cabin with a log fire and it was the perfect way to relax. The views and sunsets from the house were great to look out on while having something to drink in the evening. The family that run it are also very friendly with friendly dogs and cats to match! They were always on hand if required to offer useful advice on the best places to go and things to do in the area. It was the perfect place to explore Baltimore and the surrounding countryside from. We highly recommend this as a place to stay for a relaxing, fun holiday. Thanks, we'd love to come back!

About the neighbourhood
On the top of the hill overlooking Baltimore and the Islands on one side and the Wild Atlantic on the other. The post man passes the gat everyday at 2.15. And that's the only sound you hear besides the sea or the birds or the donkey down the road. :)
Getting around
You'll need a car for most of Ireland but around here a lot of the fun can be had in the water. Either take a ferry or a whale trip or a kayake and go have fun. Or hike your way around the cliffs and valleys of West Cork.

How to get there
With Baltimore still about 1 km away you will find yourself driving with the water on your right. You'll see a wrecked old fishing boat in the middle. After passing it you will come to where the main road takes a 90 degree turn to the right at a sign for Baltimore. Go straight ahead at this junction (signposted Trafraska) leaving the main road and after 100m follow the road around to the left and start climbing up a hill. After about 1 km the road starts to flatten off - keep an eye on the telephone pole with 3 florescent yellow strips and a sign for us on the corner. As you come up that hill we are the house you can see straight in front of you but it is the second entrance on the left. Welcome to your new home, Cedar Boathouse.
