Fantastic family hiliday
What a fantastic place for a family holiday. The house contained everything you could possibly need for a large family. Our host Marie was always on hand if we required anything yet by no means intrusive. The location is very close to both Chapelton and Portmagee but to get the most out of Valentia island with all it's beautiful scenery and things to do I would recommend a car to get around. All of our extended family would like to thank Marie for a fantastic holiday. Regards Pat

Comfort amongst the Stunning Views
Let me start by saying that I clocked up more hours of sleep on this trip than I have in a long time. So if you are considering a career in competitive sleeping, this might be a good place to start. Marie welcomed us to her lovely, well equipped house and gave us the lowdown on all the places to visit on Valentia and further afield. The house was an excellent basecamp and an ideal place from which to set off every day on our adventures and to return to in the evenings. It put a smile on my face to come home to the turf fire in the evening. Having visited Kerry dozens of times, this was an opportunity to relax and spend time enjoying the the sights at our leisure and to sit and chat with the friendly and welcoming Kerry people. Get ready for an understatement: Kerry is beautiful. I don't have the words to describe it or how it makes one feel. But I can tell you this: when you open your curtains in Marie's house and look out across the channel, you will smile and look forward to the day ahead. Your day will take you trough a compilation of scenic wonders where you will be continuously distracted by the next view, and the next, and the next. At the end of the day, you will come back and fill yourself with food and beer from the many fine establishments in the area and head home sated, back to that turf fire and the comfort of Mari's house. And as you close the curtains, you will be thinking ahead to your next morning and what it will bring, happy in the knowledge that you are goin to have a fantastic sleep. I will be back for sure!

A fabulous location to explore Valentia/ Kerry
The house is beautiful and in a fantastic location to ensure that you get out and about to explore. Kids loved the large garden which became a football/ rugby/ cricket pitch for the duration of the stay. The house is off the main road and is quite secluded with breath taking views of the Mountains. The property is well proportioned with plenty of space for the 9 of us to spread out. The facilities within the house are very good with everything you would expect and need for a visit. We brought our bikes and can highly recommend cycling around the Island and into Knightstown along the Coast. The pub in Chapeltown, which is about 5 min walk was closed during our stay but there are shops and pubs in Knightstown and Portmagee about 5min drive in either direction or 15min by bike. There is plenty of attractions on Valentia and nearby to entertain the kids such as the Slate Quarry (which was surprisingly a very enjoyable visit for the young and old); the Valentia ice cream parlour; Bray Head loop walk; Geokaun Mountain; lighthouse; Skellig Islands; Skellig Chocolate Factory; Kerry Cliffs and St Finians Bay for body boarding. We would also recommend a visit to Paddle and Sea in Cahersiveen for some watersports. All in all we had a fabulous family holiday in Croi na gCnoc, given the Covid restrictions and could not recommend it highly enough. Finally thanks to Marie and her family as they were wonderful hosts.

Excellent Accommodation
Our family spent 4 nights here and had a wonderful time. The location of the house is perfect, rural but central to everything on the Island. The house is modern/very spacious/clean and offers spectacular views. The owners are very nice people and were very accommodating. I would absolutely recommend staying here and visiting Valentia Island for everything it has to offer.

Brilliant stay in Valentia
We had a fantastic stay in Croi na gCnoc for a week for our party of 4 plus our dog.The hosts were lovely and the house was extremely comfortable with everything we needed and beautiful views from every room, We were able to walk to the local pub which serves very good food. We travelled all around the island including doing the Bray Head loop walk, visiting the lovely little beach near Knightstown and enjoying our visit to Valentia candles. We also visited many great locations beyond the island including Waterville beach, Ballinskelligs beach, the Bollus Head loop walk and Skelligs Chocolate. We will certainly look to visit again!

About the neighbourhood
Walking anywhere in Valentia is an experience in itself. For the fishing enthusiast, whether deep sea angling or shore fishing is your passion, Valentia is an ideal base. You can hire a boat from Knightstown pier and go deep sea angling. For a more personal service, and to cater for your individual needs boat cruises can be arranged on request. There are some great places to eat both in Valentia and surrounding areas offering varied types of cuisine. The Island offers a wealth of activities and without a boat trip to the Skelligs as it is highly recommended. This is an excellent location to have a picnic so ensure you pack some lunch! The views are breath taking looking back towards Valentia Island and Portmagee or out across the Atlantic Ocean for as far as the eye can see, next stop America! From here you can view the original ‘bee hive’ houses where the Monks once lived. You can admire the beautiful wild birds, including Puffins, and it is not uncommon to see dolphins in these waters.Tetra Pod Fossil Prints - Valentia Island385 million years old Tetrapod fossil footsteps have recently been discovered on Valentia Island, near Cahersiveen. This is a major discovery since only a few similar examples exist throughout the world. It has attracted interest from palaeontologists world-wide and was featured in “National Geographic” magazineTrans Atlantic Cable to Newfoundland USA – ValentiaLaid in 1865 the Trans Atlantic Cable linking Valentia to Newfoundland, was at the time the only telegraphic link between Europe and the United States. It dealt with up to 4000 messages a day between the two continents, was manned 24 hours a day 365 days a week and provided employment for up to 242 staff.Glanleam Sub Tropical Gardens – Valentia IslandRelax in hidden valleys, admire the beautiful exotic plants and the magnificent views while wandering through the wonderful Subtropical Gardens at Glanleam House. Once the seat of the Knights of Kerry, the gardens are now open to the public from 11am to 5pm. Altazamuth Stone - Valentia IslandThe script on the original stone reads & European arc of longitude, site of the position of the Altazamuth Stone used to determine the longitude of Valentia in FogherThis was once a working sheep farm but present owners have invested time and money to make this one of the most spectacular walks on the Island. It is possible to drive to the top of the mountain although 1st gear is recommended!! Alternatively a car park is situated half way up the mountain and allows taking in the viewing platform observing the Cliffs of Fogher and the Dingle peninsular beyond. From here you can complete the ascent to the top of the mountain on foot. No trip to Valentia would be complete without doing this walk. A small fee is incurred to cover maintenance and car parking costs.Valentia Annual RegattaThe sport of Coastal Rowing can be traced as far back as the old cobblers and fishermen of the mid-Nineteenth Century. Various boats and crews of cobblers are recorded as racing out to meet the incoming schooners, etc. with the winners receiving the valuable piloting contract. There was also the benefit of racing to the best fishing grounds. This was a means of survival and of earning a living, but in their spare time and during holidays these coastal crews raced for sport. This sport has carried on to this day and Valentia boasts first class rowing teams. Each year a regatta is staged, on the Island, and is an excellent family day out.
Getting around
Due to the many sites and points of interest on the Wild Atlantic Way it would be useful to have a car so as to include as much sightseeing as possible into your holidaying experience. It is also lovely to have a cycle around the island. Bikes are available locally for rent. There are also guided bus tours running locally which are most enjoyable and informative. You will information on same in your information pack in the house.
