The apartment is located in a small village, with lovely old buildings, a fort tower (XIV century), where the church bells ring, like in old days, three times a day and the locals say hello to strangers. 30% of the territory of Abruzzo is protected with three national parks, one regional parks and almost a dozen of natural reserves. The area is famous for excellent sheep cheese, authentic pasta dishes, non-GMO spelt, lamb meat, medieval hermitages and monasteries, mountain walks, cycling routes, rock climbing, natural spring spa towns and its breathtaking natural beauty. The apartment consists of a spacious bedroom, kitchen with a gas stove, bathroom and a large balcony. Please note, there is no TV. About the neighbourhood
Roccamorice is known as 'La Rocca' in the local dialect. It is located in the foothills of the Majella mountains, at an altitude of 520msl. The history of the area around the village dates back to early Roman times when the Maiella mountains above Roccamorice were mined by the Romans for precious metals. A great many slaves were used and there is some indication that it also became a Roman penal colony. The village of Roccamorice was born in medieval times, and from the 1400s into the 1700s it belonged to the feudal Valignani family. There is a remnant of a tower, 'La Torre,' which was built in XIV century by a powerful feudal family that controlled Roccamorice at the time. At that time such towers served as strongholds during attack. The tower was adjacent castle which is now gone....
Getting around
There is a bus going to Pescara with beaches, restaurants and excellent shopping a few times a day but it is better to rent a car if you want to explore the area. A train station is 10 minutes away by car.
