Welcome to our renovated Chai (a winemaker's barn) with it's own underwater floodlit, heated pool, making it an ideal secluded holiday destination for family and friends. Home comforts, wood burning stove, large patio and veranda to sit out, relax and soak up the sun during the day and watch it set at night.

Peace and quiet whenever you want it, yet close to village bars, restaurants, beach / city day trips and the famous Chateaux of Bordeaux. Le Chai offers you all the ingredients for a memorable break.

We stayed here for 2 weeks in August. The pool is really well designed and is a great area to relax or to have fun with the kids. The garden is west facing so it was great to see the sun setting on the horizon...More

The high ceilings of this converted barn make it cool in the heat of the day, yet the wood stove renders it cosy after sundown. The well equipped kitchen with range cooker and American fridge freezer allows you to prepare fresh French foods washed down with local wines at your leisure. The dining and lounge areas comfortably allow groups of 10, the space to stretch out and rest after a hard day lazing by the pool.There are two double rooms with en-suite bathrooms, two twin rooms, a family bathroom and a separate WC. The mezzanine adds character to the barn and with 2 double sofa beds accommodation can be increased to sleep 10. In the evenings TV / DVD in the lounge, a sing song around the piano, a pool tournament or a last dip before bedtime all make for those holiday memories.

The property will be available from 4 pm on the day of arrival and must be vacated by 10 am on the day of departure. Sunday is the usual change over day, although every effort will be made to be flexible.

Your rental rate includes a reasonable expense for cleaning of the property at the end of your stay. We know that the last thing you want to do before you leave is spring clean the place. However, the next guests arriving, will expect the place to be as clean as you found it. The rental includes a cleaning charge. If the property is left in a poor state, that takes longer than the allotted time, an additional charge will be payable.

The first week's linen is included (including bath but not pool towels). If you require fresh linen for your second week or during your stay, there is a charge of £10 per room.

The pool is open between early May and late October.

A deposit of 25% is payable at the time of booking, with the final sum payable 6 weeks before the start of the holiday...

Whatever you enjoy doing on holiday (if you can drag yourself away from the pool), the Charente Maritime has something for everyone. Fascinating villages, towns and cities to explore and enjoy. We recommend the world famous Chateaux of Latour and St Emilion. But if you want to just taste and buy wine direct from the producer, we can direct you to 'Bernard' on our doorstep. The summer evening market at Montendre is worth the visit and the acclaimed zoo at La Palymre with the amazing nearby beaches of the Cote Sauvage make for a full day out.

Airport: Bordeaux: 80.0 km
Railway: Jonzac: 20.0 km
Ferry: St Malo: 350.0 km
The property (Le Chai) is set in rural France among the vineyards of the region. You will need a car. The best way of getting there will depend on where you are coming from. Ferries from Portsmouth or Poole will arrive in Caen, Cherbourg or St Malo, from where Le Chai is 350 and 400 km on easy and fast motorway / dual carriageways taking between 5 & 6 hours. The journey from the Channel tunnel is longer but we can recommend excellent Chambres D'Hotes (French B&B's) en route. The nearest airport is Bordeaux leaving a 40 minutes drive, but flights to La Rochelle are often very good value and the drive from there is only about 80 minutes. All the main cheap airlines have flights from all over the UK to these and other local airports (Angouleme, Limoges and even Nantes). How... more
