Paradise is not an illusion. My home is a romantic island retreat set on rugged cliffs overlooking the warm, peaceful waters of the Caribbean Ocean. It's perfect for a honeymoon, engagement, anniversary, or quiet getaway. In Paradise, you'll have a bird's eye view of the crystalline blue-green waters from every window. Walk down the stone-cut steps, and you'll find excellent snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming, and sunning in your own private lagoon. Secluded pink and white powdery beaches are just minutes away. Bahama Sunset is the perfect place to get away with that special someone and spend lots of quality alone time. This house was built for 2 with love, however there is a full size futon bed in the great room for additional guests. Many of the guests that visit Bahama Sunset, go to celebrate their engagements, honeymoons or anniversaries. Eleuthera is a quiet island, comprised of local farmers and fisherman. Everything is really laid back and it is not your typical tourist destination, you wont find any crowded beaches, as a matter of fact, you will probably be the only people at most of the islands beaches. There are dozens of beautiful sandy, secluded beaches scattered all over the island, many less than a mile away. The house is located just south of Gregory Town (less than a mile). You can fly into either of Eleuthera's 2 airports (ELH or GHB) from MIA, FLL or NAS. The house does not have internet, nor does it have a phone but cellular service is available with data. There are places on the island where you can check your emails by Wi-Fi if this is necessary. There are several restaurants nearby and there are stores in Gregory Town . Our Caretaker Phillip can help you arrange surfboard, charters, fishing guides, bike and kayak rentals Keep in mind, you will not be able to explore many of the islands beaches without a car. The ocean is accessed by a set of stairs and a small ladder (due to tides), there is great fishing and diving/snorkeling, swimming right below the house. I assure you “Paradise is not an Illusion”

Best Vacation Ever
I had Scott’s Bahama Sunset home saved in my HomeAway app for months and months. I must’ve looked at the pictures a hundred times wishing I was there. When I finally decided to book the trip and arrived at the home, it was literally a dream come true. What an amazing place. The second you look at the ocean from the balcony all of your worries are gone. And they stay gone the entire time you’re in Eleuthera. It truly is a magical place. My husband and I enjoyed every second of our stay and we can’t wait to go back. The home was very clean and the perfect size for the two of us. It would actually be comfortable if we brought our two kids back next time. The AC worked great and was very cold. The snorkeling right out back was some of the best on the island. We saw the “resident turtles” at 7am and 7pm. It was so cool to see the turtles everyone writes about. I even got to snorkel with one of them. We rented Scott’s car which was super convenient and drove almost every mile of the island exploring. Phillip the caretaker is literally just that. He takes care of anything you may need and is very responsive. A few things to know before you go- Pack a suitcase of food and supplies. We brought bread, boxed cheese, packets of rice/couscous, spices, chips/snacks, protein bars, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. Things like that. At 3:30pm, “Ton” arrives at the dock in James Cistern with fresh caught fish you can buy from him. He will filet it for you right there. Lots of snapper and grouper. You can get fresh veggies from the 7-11 up the street. There’s a larger grocery store to the north in The Bluffs I believe it was called. The liquor store in Gregory Town had a large selection of liquors and beer and the prices were actually decent. Daddy’s Joes has excellent food. The cracked lobster is amazing. Queens Bath is a must visit, along with Sapphire Blue hole. Both are on the way up to Preachers Cave, which has a gorgeous beach on the opposite side of the little dirt road. We experienced so much more than what is in this review, but I’ll let you figure it out for yourselves. That’s the beauty of Eleuthera. You never know where the day will take you and what you will experience. Have an open mind, chill and get out and explore. And talk to the locals. They’ll tell you everything you want to know.

Paradise was an Illusion
We chose Bahamas Sunset based on all the 5 star reviews. Unfortunately, we did not have a 5 star vacation. First let me start with the positives because it will be short. The views are amazing morning, noon, and night which is very relaxing. My husband really enjoyed the snorkeling. He saw quite a bit of marine life. The house is fairly spacious, and the locals were mostly friendly. That's about it for the positives. Now for the negatives...Our introduction to Philip was met with complete and utter disinterest in us. We were told to ask Philip about a wonderful place to get fresh bread and his response was "just go the market and buy some bread". The house did not have trash bags and we asked if he could bring us some, but that never happened. There were other things that we asked for, but to list them all will take up too many characters. We can appreciate him allowing us our privacy, but to be completely dismissed and/or ignored when we specifically asked for his help is unacceptable. We have used VRBO for many years, and we have NEVER stayed in a house that had rusty appliances and mold on the curtains, nor did they supply extra toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, trash bags, or extra towels. Housekeeping really does not wash the dishes. So be kind to the next renters and wash the dishes before you leave or they will be put away dirty as we found out. Oh and be prepared to sleep on a small futon mattress. The owner should also consider investing in a safe, as we had a man lurking around house with a trash bag in tow not realizing we were there. When my husband confronted him he began to offer his services to wash the car, get us some lobsters if we would give him some money. The only way we were going to get rid of him was to give him a few dollars. Not to say he was there to steal from us, but it just seemed a bit suspicious and unnerving. We love traveling and value our trips. So to have this kind of experience on our first trip to the Bahamas is disappointing to say the least. P.S. I have tried to post this review on VRBO’s website and as of July 2018 they still have not posted it...shady!

Your very own aquarium!! House..o.k.
Great spot on the cliff - Your very own aquarium below!! The house was like a camping cabin in Montana. Clean. Rustic Darker wood, Had basic kitchen needs. There was great water pressure in kitchen and bath. Shower (and bathroom in general) good size. Better lighting would be good. I found it too dark at night in the house. It seemed a bit older, but taken care of. The double bed too small for 2 - and hard. Futon in living area - hard as well. Dining room set is an outdoor table and chairs, while functional not overly comfy. The deck is great, as are the loungers with pads. No beach chairs or umbrella which was disappointing for us. Easy access to home from main highway, yet you don't hear the cars. Gregory Town really has NOTHING there, so do not think you will go in for supper etc. They have a little "7-11" with essentials.

Outdoor aquarium---just look down !
The best feature of this property is the view---splendid ! You look from the back deck directly onto the water and what appears to be a natural aquarium below. You don't readily see the fish until diving in with a mask and snorkel. Sting ray,sea turtles, tropical fish, coral....you can also venture out into the ocean for a swim along the clifts. The steps leading down to the water are a little scarey but you get used to them.As for the house it is "rustic" with a beautiful knotty pine interior, ample space and solid construction. The furniture could use an upgrade but it is functional. No Wifi or TV took a little getting used to but the quiet and solitude was a welcome change (could be tough for kids). One neighbor next door but not at all intrusive. Overall a unique experience and I hope to return someday.

Beter than expected !
We stayed at this house in Nov 2016! We will absolutely stay here again, it was excellent. The house, the people and the island. Scott was easy to rent from and work with. Here are a few tips if you go: 1. Read the guest books at the house the first day! Will give you LOTS of info for the island. 2. Get to know the locals! We were a bit nervous our first day as we arrived near dark and didn't have our bearings, but as soon as we started interacting with the locals, we loved the place! 3. Plan plenty of time at the house, we found our self sitting on the deck watching the ocean and the "giant aquarium" below for hours! Snorkeling at the house, we saw moray eels, an eagle ray, sting rays, lion fish, puffer fish, sea turtles, angel fish and much more just at the house. We would absolutely go back and have already given the link to this house to 4 other couples considering a trip to Eleuthera after seeing my wife's Instagram pics. Thanks Scott, Eric & Amelia Villeneuve

Great Place Love Vacation
Perfect house for couple who enjoy getting away from it all. Great location with groceries and restaurants close by. You must rent a car to explore the island, the owner offers a nice one if you wish to do a packaged deal. Comfortable, clean, private and nice. Hard to say enough good things about the house or the location. Good communication from the owner as well. If you are looking for a place near Gregory Town and surfers beach for 2 this is your place.

I was enchanted by this place. I spent my time at the house, sitting on the deck in a chair taking in the beauty if the vast ocean and crystal clear water and warm lovely breazes. Then I would take the stone stairway down into the lagoon and sit with my feet in the water and talk to all the colored fish that would come and visit. I also liked to snorkel around the big Rocks and see the coral and Fish. I also came close to a very large nurse shark. All of my senses were captivated by the beauty all around. I hope to return soon.

What a view!
We stayed 5 days at Bahama Sunset in August. It is a lovely house with a wonderful deck above the sea. Best spot for snorkeling : many fishes, even turtles (morning and evening). Sunset are so beautiful... A/C was useful at night. Gregory town is also very pleasant little town with friendly people. I wish we could stay longer !

Fantastic property in an amazingly friendly and comfortable Bahama Island
My wife and I stayed at this property for 8 days. We could have stayed 8 months just as easily. It is a very well maintained home above what might be the best snorkel spot on the entire island. We rented Scott's car while there and we highly recommend you do the same if you go. On an island that is approximately 110 miles long with 134 beaches you'll be glad you have the car. Phillip provides a great service as a contact and caretaker during your stay. He lives right in town and is always a phone call away. In 8 days we only made it 1/2 way down the island twice. We stopped at Governor's Harbor then came back both times. That way we'll have new destinations next time we stay at Bahama Sunset. Eat at Daddy Joes, Unca Gene's and Franco's restaurant right in Gregory Town. In Governors Harbor we ate at Pascal's and Tippy's. Both were very good. Our favorite beach was just a short drive north, Gaulding Beach. The entrance is right across the road from Daddy Joe's restaurant. There is a little island in the bay there with good snorkeling. I'll end the review with a list of things we saw in the lagoon right at the house. Caribbean spiny lobster (approx. 2'), huge crab, moon jellyfish, Hawksbill turtles, huge mollusk, lionfish(boo, hiss), Nassau grouper, Conch, reef shark, tarpon, sergeant major, trumpet fish, butterfly fish, skate, rock beauty, parrot fish, gray angelfish, sand diver, blue tang, fairy basslet, yellowtail snapper, stoplight parrotfish, french angelfish, feather duster, fan worms, staghorn coral, blue fan coral, sponges, fire coral, brain coral
