Cottage -
1 Bedroom , 1 Bathroom , Sleeps 3
Halifax, West Yorkshire, England
Dyer's Cottage Yorkshire is a 17th century traditional #Yorkshire stone cottage, full of character, which was sympathetically renovated in 2015 to provide singles, couples or small families with a warm, inviting and extremely comfortable stay near Halifax in Calderdale. Special offer for the dates remaining in August but pricing reflects this. This cottage is extremely unusual in that it has a very long documented history of occupants since 1777 when the owners great great great grandfather was born here and succeeding generations of his family have continued to live there whilst working in the nearby dyeworks (long gone except for the 77m chimney, now the tallest folly in the world). It oozes character with ceiling beams, an inglenook fireplace with a gas fired stove for instant heat and no mess, restored pine doors and exposed sto... Read more

Interaction with guests
If possible I like to meet my guests on arrival and show them round but I do understand that some people prefer to arrive independently then explore the cottage by themselves. I do like to communicate with my guests before arrival so that they are sure how to reach the cottage, know where the best pubs and restaurants are and how to generally feel at home. I have a local housekeeper who is around in case of any difficulty.

About the neighbourhood
The area on this part of the West Yorkshire/Lancashire border has been dramatically portrayed recently in TV series such as Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Valley. It is a mixture of industrial architecture, usually in urban areas, quiet villages, often with traditional pubs offering local beer, and extensive valley and moorland scenery. Please look at the photos as you will be amazed at how beautiful the area is and how easy it is to enjoy a holiday. History abounds, whether it be of the buildings connected with the Industrial Revolution or old churches, abbeys and stately homes to visit.
The immediate area around Dyer's Cottage was rural until the latter part of the 19th century with most people working as farmers or in the local dyeworks. The outward expansion of Halifax led to fur...
