Lovely Seafront Stay
(This review is partly identical to that of the Waterfront Suite, but I’ve added specifics regarding the Unique Seafront cottage.) We had the opportunity to stay in both properties owned by Truls and Kåre. Both are lovely vacation rentals and have their benefits and drawbacks. I am completely confident giving both properties “Excellent” ratings, but travelers should be aware of a few of the quarks of the stay. Remember, this is a family’s home – I know of no home that is perfect. But Truls and Kåre’s home and cottage get awfully close to a perfect vacation get away on the seafront of Oslo.
Truls and Kåre host two lovely properties – just as advertised – about a 15 min drive or bus ride (the stop is literally out the front door and across the street!) from the Oslo city center and from there, a short walk to the Central Station. These are two properties recently listed on TripAdvisor which is why there are no reviews as of yet. Our family of four was able to shop, eat, and travel to and from the house without a car! Truls and Kåre also went to great lengths to make our stay welcome and comfortable by providing their own “traveler’s guide” to staying at their home.
The two properties are nestled together on the waterfront, just off the main road. One is the cottage, which is literally on the waterfront with a pier that stretches out across the water. The other property is part of Truls and Kåre’s own home. It is the entire top floor of their house.
Here are some notes specifically about the seafront cottage:
This is a cozy (in the best way!) seafront cottage. It has all the amenities of a full kitchen, just in “mini” size. We were able to visit the grocery store (which, by the way, is a 10 min walk up hill if you don’t want to take the bus or a car) and stock up for our stay. After that we easily cooked and ate comfortably in the cottage. The view is amazing. Our evening activity of choice was to sit on the pier, wrapped in blankets, while simply watching the water, the sea birds and petting Felix the resident cat.
Here are some things travelers should be aware of before renting (I don’t see these as negatives, but rather “flavor” of the good kind). This is a cozy place – meaning some could see it as a little cramped. There are four single bunk beds on the main floor, sort of “boat house” style. The other two double beds are located in a loft which is only accessible by climbing up a ladder. The double beds, while the most comfortable beds I’ve slept on in years (seriously!), are in a low-ceiling loft. It was a bit of a crawl to get to one of the beds and there is no way to stand up straight in the loft.
Even though the cottage technically sleeps eight, I recommend no more than four guests. Aside from the sleeping arrangement, some visitors may feel the furniture a little sparse. There are no “big fluffy comfy” chairs or couches. So if you need a place to recline or a place to really spread out, I recommend renting the apartment in the big house.
Lastly, I saw some negative reviews (on other websites) about the seafront property based on the bathroom. The shower “leaks all over the floor” and some travelers found that disturbing. Yes, the shower is not sealed to the floor and yes, it allows water to run on to the floor. We worked with it, soaked a few towels and learned how to stand “just right” to let the water flow down the drain. Not a big deal and not a deal breaker. Again, this is a family’s home and every home has its “special features”.
Overall, this is a lovely (and yes, unique!) seafront property. I loved every minute of my stay on the water. Relaxing and inviting. On top of everything Truls and Kåre are lovely hosts. We truly felt welcome. I would rent again. If I find myself in Oslo again I would rent from Truls and Kåre in a heartbeat. Not only was it a lovely stay but I feel like we made lovely friends.

Stunning property with outstanding hosts.
A stunning house in an amaising location. 20 mins out of Oslo city centre, the fjord side views are ever changing and beautiful to watch.
The house is small but very well thought out and fun to stay in.
The owners can't do enough for you and struck the perfect balance of being there when you need them and being invisible when you dont.
Can't recommend this property enough but be mindful the two double beds are accessed by a small ladder. Probably not a great place for less mobile guests.
I only rated the rooms as a 4 because they are small but that is very much the charm of the property.
We had 8 adults staying over New Year and (other than a bathroom rota) never had any problems.

A once in a lifetime unique experience!
Moments from a salty dip and less than fifteen minutes' walk from Oslo's historic Ekebergparken, Oslo's cultural district, and scenic walking paths through the woods on the ocean's edge, this cabin guarantees a once in a lifetime unique experience. Your caretakers Kåre and Truls will treat you as honored guests, taking care of your every need, while still giving you your space and privacy that the fjord demands. With all current amenities, and a spacious shower, this property will be a must in all my future visits to Oslo!

On the pier
This is a location straight out of your dreams. A modern, smart and tight cabin, opening up towards the ever changing movements of the fjord and the sky. Kåre and Truls are the most perfect and hospitable hosts you can think of. I feel lucky to have found this place - and will soon be back.

Fabulous place to stay in Oslo
This is a darling cottage on the Oslo Fjord and was the perfect way to begin our tour of Norway. The views are spectacular, the transportation to and from the center of the city couldn't be easier, the hosts were very helpful, and it was extremely well organized. We felt right at home immediately and hated to leave. If we ever get back to Oslo, we will absolutely want to stay here. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Idyllic location and wonderful hosts
We can't recommend this property highly enough. The location is absolutely amazing with wonderful panoramic views across the fjord providing spectacular sunsets. The cabin is compact and bijou, equipped to a very high standard including a lovely outside kitchen area and access to fishing rods and a dinghy. We used all of these and even caught some fish! The hosts are exceptionally kind and accommodating and couldn't be more helpful from advice on restaurants to transport. We recommend that you take them up on their offer of a Norwegian breakfast too as this was really lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed the food, drink and their company. The property is really conveniently located only 15 minutes by (a very regular) bus service from the central station which means that getting in to and back from town is incredibly easy. And the bus stop is just 1 minute from the property which is really handy. We would recommend a travel card if you are there for any length of time as you can use these on most modes of public transport too. In summary, if you are after a cosy and well equipped property in an idyllic location, supported by lovely hosts, this is the place for you!

One of those places in the world you must stay at!
This is one of those places in the world that you just must stay at.
The whole feel of the place and the fact that it’s almost surrounded 360 with the sea makes for a magical experience and one you will not forget. Construction on the shoreline is no longer allowed so this give a unique opportunity for a peaceful, relaxing and unique stay.
The owner Kare was a fantastic host – he helped make sure we had what we needed and gave us some great advice about where to go/what to do in Oslo. He told us about the Korketrekkeren – look it up, its amazing, a real ‘bucket list’ type of thing. In advance of arriving we had everything we needed to know to a super level of detail.
The house itself has everything you need for a comfortable stay, all mod cons and utensils, towels, bedding, etc, there’s a car parking space on site, its right opposite the bus stop into the city and not far from some restaurants and supermarkets.
Thank you to Kare and Truls, we didn’t want to leave and we will definitely be back!

Perfect fjord-side retreat
We loved our stay in Oslo at this charming authentic seaside bungalow. Well-appointed and fully equipped. Evening sunsets on our private dock and the opportunity to join our host for breakfast our first morning made this a highlight of our visit to Norway. Be prepared for stairs to the cottage as well as a steep ladder to the loft sleeping area.

What a lovely apartment
The view is exactly as it's given in the pictures... The water looks magical in the long afternoon sunlight. It's a lovely relaxing peaceful view of the fjord throughout the day too. The apartment itself is lovely and has a full kitchen. We could hardly tear ourselves away from it, it was such a haven! The owners were also really friendly and helpful.
However visitors have to be aware that this apartment may not be for those with mobility problems- it is 20 min from Oslo city centre ( though we had a 45min journey one weekday afternoon); it's a 50m walk to the apartment down stairs and over gravel, and the main bedroom is a loft and needs a steep climb up a ladder. If this is not an issue, book it early!

Thank you very much for your review. We are delighted to know that you found the place 'such a haven' -- and a place it was difficult to tear yourselves away from. You are always very welcome back! We are sorry to hear that you got delayed in traffic in the early part of the summer. There was construction work underway in Bjørvika in that period, and that affected traffic in periods. The normal travel time by bus from Oslo Central Station to the property is 12 minutes outside of rush hour.
As for the cottage: let me perhaps just clarify there is one bedroom and a sleepong loft with two double beds.
