The new Bird View apartments of Ekkerøy Holiday House take you closer to nature, both from inside and outdoors. When you go outside, you are tempted to enjoy a marvellous touring ground in a harsh landscape.
Inside the apartments the big windows give you a feeling of still staying in the open air. You have a view of the Arctic Coast, birds, fish racks, reindeer, infinity. Each apartment contains a self-catering kitchen/living-room, a bed-room and bathroom – everything brand new.

Very nice stay
Bird view apartaments are a great place to stay, clean, very comfortable and the owner is very helpful. The views are unforgetable, I remember having breakfast everyday looking at the sea. Goog place to go for walks and Ekkeroy was one of our favourite sites in Varager Peninsula. We would return!

Perfect place for relaxation and bird watching
If you can sit on a sofa and watch white tale eagle standing at the beach you must be almost in heaven. Ekkeroy Feriehus was excellently located and equipped. Hiking paths started from our doorstep and other beautiful places were within a short driving distance. We had booked a condo for 3 nights but took an extra night since we liked it so much!

Stunning!
We came to the area for birdwatching and these apartments are simply stunning. We stayed in Oystercatcher and it was fabulous. We had views towards the shore and the fish racks and it felt so peaceful. The apartment's have been kitted out to a high standard and the attention to detail was great. I loved reading about the history of Ekkeroy on the walls. The beds were comfy and the kitchen had everything we needed.
Ingjerd was very welcoming and gave us information about how to use the sauna - which was excellent! I would highly recommend staying here, especially to birders, as you can walk to the bird cliff and it is a good place to stay without having to stay in one of the towns.

About the neighbourhood
Varanger is about the long lines in the landscape as well as the long lines of history. Varanger not only offers a physical experience; you will also find serenity on this road. It is difficult to explain other than by saying that this is a place where you feel as if time stands a bit still. You drive past birch woods, marshland and a rugged cliff landscape. The light is special and the bird and animal life are unique. Species of birds that you can’t see anywhere else in the world are relatively easily accessible. It’s not only because of its geographical location that Varanger is perhaps the most exotic stretch. A trip along the route leading to the Arctic Ocean will reveal natural surroundings full of contrasts.
Getting around
To get around Varanger you are dependent on a car. You can take direct flights from Oslo to Kirkenes or Vadsø. Here you can rent a car that you can drive around in the area. Calculate more days than you first thought - there are great distances and lots of nice scenery to see and experience. For airline tickets: www.sas.no or www.norwegian.no

How to get there
You can reach Ekkerøy by taking direct flights with SAS or Norwegian Oslo-Kirkenes (approximately 2 hours flight). Then you can take Widerøe aircraft (approx 10 min flight time) over The Varangerfjord to Vadsø Airport, and rent a car there. It is about 10 min drive from Vadsø Airport to Ekkerøy.
The alternative is to rent a car at Kirkenes Airport and drive the magnificent trip around the bay. The tour takes about 2.5 hours and is 185 km long. It is easier to get hired car in Kirkenes than in Vadsø.
It is also an opportunity to travel by plane from Oslo-Tromsø and then take direct plane from Tromsø Vadsø.
Some also travel from Helsinki to Ivalo in the north, and rent a car there before they drive about 4 hours to Ekkerøy.
The ferry Hurtigruten have daily morning arrivals at Vadsø (which is 15 km west of Ekkerøy) and it is an alternative for those who have plenty of time.
