The living room boasts vintage interior decor and original tiling that makes this a beautiful space in which to relax, socialise or work. After a long day of exploring the city, take the weight off your feet on the sofa and truly feel at home! Move through to the kitchen and you’ll find an array of modern appliances and cooking implements. One of the highlights of this unique home is the gorgeous garden where you can sit in the sunshine and enjoy al-fresco dining! Another highlight of this unique home is the large fireplace which lends a rustic feel to the room and creates a unique sense of personality in the property. The house is walking distance to all Sintra historic hotspots, and the house itself was once home to famous Danish children fairytales writer Hans Christan Anderssen (including the Little Mermaid!) when he lived in Portugal. It was later renovated by Portuguese artist Maria Germana Tânger, who took good care in turning it into her personal escape from the city. The master bedroom boasts a comfortable double bed with fresh, hotel-quality linens, as well as ample storage and wardrobe space. Black-out blinds on the windows keep the room dark so you can always get a good night’s rest and wake up refreshed. The second bedroom features two single beds, also fitted with superior-standard linens so your stay is as comfortable as possible. The third bedroom has a single bed and a single sofa bed. In the mornings, when you want to freshen up, just head through to one of the two well-appointed bathrooms, where you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the tub or an energising shower. Towels and toiletries are provided. The property will be professionally cleaned before your stay, and a gardener will go to the property once a week on Fridays or Saturdays to keep the garden neat at all times! ##GUEST ACCESS You will have access to the entire property and it is important that you are respectful towards your neighbours and keep noise to a minimum after 10 pm. Our standard check-in time is at 3pm and our standard check-out time is at 11am. ##INTERACTION WITH GUESTS This home is being managed by an award-winning property management service team who will do everything they can to ensure you have a fantastic stay! If you have any questions, please get in touch through this website. ##NEIGHBOURHOOD Located around 25km to the north west of the center of Lisbon, Sintra is well known as one of Portugal’s most picturesque tourist destinations. The area had been the favored summer retreat of the Royal Family for centuries and it is easy to see why. The area is dominated by the stunning Pena National Palace, built on the highest point in Sintra in the 19th century as the summer residence for King Ferdinand II, with its gothic facades and Turkish-style domes making it is one of the finest examples of Portugal's architectural romanticism movement. The town of Sintra itself has often been described as being like Disneyland for grown-ups, with flamboyant and eccentric architecture mixed with local idiosyncrasies to create a magical place with its own unique identity. With many steep hills and cobbled streets, you’re well advised to wear sturdy shoes during your time in Sintra. If you head out of the town, be sure to enjoy a walk in the Parque Natural de Sintra-Cascais, with it’s beautiful hills, dunes and cliffs. Restaurante Pendoa is the place to go for hearty traditional Portuguese fare, with a tasty menu, friendly atmosphere and a good mix of locals and tourists. Midori serves extremely high-quality sushi that is in keeping with the luxurious nature of the local area. For a lunchtime meal, try Cafe Saudade which began life in the 19th-century as a specialist bakery for King Ferdinand II and today offers great food along with an artspace for local performers and creatives. For a perfect example of refined dining, head to Lawrence’s Hotel Restaurant, located inside the oldest continuously running hotel on the Iberian Peninsula. For an evening drink, the Casa do Fauno is a favorite of the local crowd and houses a medieval pub with low wooden beam ceilings, candle light and a superb atmosphere. Mourisca Bar offers great cocktails and bar games for a fun and entertaining evening. For a late night tipple, head to Bombar Sintra for exciting drinks, upbeat music and a club atmosphere. For lunchtime options, head to A Praça - a recent family ran business offering healthy meals. ##GETTING AROUND The best way to get around in Sintra is by walking or catching the bus up to the touristic areas. All historic areas in Sintra are walking distance from the property! There is also a train station that connects Sintra to Lisbon, and other areas. ##THINGS TO NOTE The flat capacity is Tourist License / Licencia de turismo N °: 93775/ALMore
