Cortona, Province of Arezzo, Tuscany
An perfect setting for a sight seeing holiday, with all home comforts , our medieval 3-storey home lies at the historic heart of walled Cortona, with its gourmet restaurants and pavement cafes. An Etruscan hill town, profiled against rolling oak and olive clad hills, where Frances Mayes wrote 'Under the Tuscan Sun', Cortona is chosen by countless tourists as their holiday venue, or by couples as their perfect wedding venue. Park outside the walled city, and we'll meet in the piazza to help with your bags and show you in to your exclusive home for the duration of your stay. As you walk up the cobbled alleyway, you'll see our distinctive green wooden door facing back down to Cortona's only flat street, the Ruga Piana. Enter the gracious sitting room with comfortable leather seating, pellet stove, and cloakroom off. A... Read more

Interaction with guests
Before you come, we will send detailed directions of train or road travel, along with suggestions of things you can do during your stay, and a list of all the equipment in the house. On arrival, we'll meet and show you in. We're very happy to help book a table for your first evening meal, and to give you a quick orientation tour of the centre of Cortona, either your first day or once you've settled in. After that we remain available (25 mins away in our home in the hills) to help if needed, or to continue to liaise on your behalf with booking vineyard tours, or cooking classes, or theatre tickets etc. We won't intrude, but we'll be on hand to advise. At the end, we'll come back down to say goodbye, and help with your bags.

About the neighbourhood
Many come to Cortona to get married, thanks to its uniquely photogenic setting and romantic atmosphere; others come for its medieval churches and alleyways all enjoy its gastronomy, along with its wide range of festivals and pageants. Being so central, yet secluded, our house is the perfect base and refuge for honeymooners, festival goers and sightseers alike.

Within the walls, festivals start at Easter, a very colourful affair. The Copper Festival, and the Festa of Santa Margarita follow 22 May, with the Medieval Week 1-9 June (including the Giostro dellArchidado or Crossbow Contest, on 9 June). In June Cortona also hosts the Poetry and Coffee Festival. July as a whole is the 'archaeological month' with many free activities and guided access to normally restricted sites. Last yea...
Getting around
Inside Cortona, everything can be reached on foot. Some prefer to take the free shuttle bus to the top of town (the Medici fortress, and Basilica of Santa Margherita). A hourly pay bus runs down to the train station at Camucia, with access to Arezzo, Perugia, Castiglione del Lago etc. For visiting some places, including Siena, and the small towns round Lake Trasimene, a hire car is pretty much essential . Ferries run from the lakeside towns to the little islands, where you can walk and eat. Timetables provided.

How to get there
Airport: Perugia: 40.0 km
Railway: Camucia Cortona: 3.0 km
Cortona is easy to reach, either by hire car or train from Rome or Pisa airports. The station to come to is Camucia, 3 km below Cortona, where we could probably meet you and bring you up the hill. Most guests choose to come by hire car. We'd send detailed personalised directions for the drive from the airport, and then meet in the main square to help unload your bags - also your shopping, if you take up on our suggestion to de-tour round by a good supermarket. Free parking in Cortona is outside the walls, so after unloading, one of us will escort you down, while the other starts showing you in to the house. Camucia station remains a good jumping off spot for day trips to Rome or Florence, with buses that run up and down the hill.
