Villa Picasso is a vintage town-house in the same leafy courtyard as Picasso's Montparnasse studio. A DUPLEX HOME WITH LIGHT, SPACE AND CHARM This spacious, high-ceilinged, 2,200-sq-ft duplex drips with authentic Parisian charm. Villa Picasso is not a sterile “rental property”, but a cozy family home built 110 years ago. The bright and spacious 6-room duplex sleeps up to 8 persons on 4 double beds in 4 separate rooms. THE ART OF LIVING WELL The entire house is furnished with antiques and original period paintings, but with free hi-speed Wi-Fi and digital printer for your computers, i-Phones or tablets; cable TV with international channels; free telephone to land lines anywhere; stereo; fully equipped kitchen; central heating and ventilators for all rooms. Three rooms have working fireplaces which you are welcome to use. A GUIDED VISIT The 580-square-foot artist's studio has 16-foot ceilings, a bibliophile's library, and a huge music collection for every taste. Or you can make your own on our 1906 3/4-concert-grand piano (the same model Ravel used to compose his famous 'Bolero”). One couche conveniently contains a very comfortable double bed. A wall of heavy folding doors separates the artist's studio from a big master bedroom with double bed overlooking the quiet garden. Imagine a cozy evening curled up in bed before a crackling fireplace. A living/dining room is hung with original paintings by 19th century French minor masters, and is filled with antique 'objects d'art'. The room has a working fireplace and a dining table for 8 persons in front of a full wall of French windows. A beautiful Chesterfield sofa hides a 5th double bed for 2 additional guests. From the living/dining room, a pantry leads to an eat-in kitchen that comfortably seats 8 persons and is full of old-fashioned country charm, but with all the conveniences: dishwasher, washing machine with built-in drier, gas stove with oven, microwave, 2 toasters, every cooking utensil you could ever need, and a full stock of condiments, oils & vinegars, coffee, teas, flour, sugar, salt, etc. There is an adjoining WC in the hallway. ONE FLIGHT UP THE OAK STAIRCASE there is a large bedroom with double bed and working fireplace overlooking the quiet courtyard/garden. The bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with full shower and washbasin. Across the landing there is a smaller bedroom with a double bed, a closet and a rare baker's box from the French Revolution. The room has a direct view into Picasso's ex-studio where he did his first cubist work, a paper collage called The Guitar. Finally, a family bathroom includes a large tub, full shower, toilet, twin washbasins, three hair dryers (don't lug your own) and storage space full of extra towels and linens. A NEIGHBORHOOD FOR STROLLING Villa Picasso is ideally located for visiting all of Paris on foot or by public transport. It is a 5-minute walk to the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens, an easy 20-minute stroll to St-Germain des Près with its renowned cafés and high-end shopping, 25 minutes walk to the historic Latin Quarter, 30 to Notre Dame Cathedral, 30 to the tree-shaded quais of the Seine. GETTING AROUND IS WONDERFULLY EASY If you prefer to ride, the house is well served by public transport: It is 10 steps from 2 Metro (subway) lines at the Raspail station. The number 6 line will whisk you directly to the Eiffel tower in 7 minutes, to the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees in 15 minutes. The number 4 line (with a quick change) takes you to picturesque Pigalle and Montmartre in 25 minutes, or directly to Saint-Germain des Près in 6 minutes and the Latin Quarter in 8. In 30 minutes you'll reach the world's most famous flea market. A public bus that stops just across the street from the house will take you to the Quai d'Orsay Museum in 10 minutes, to the Louvre Museum in 12 minutes, or to Paris's most famous department stores in 20. A double-decker sightseeing bus also stops just across the road every 15 minutes. Hop on for a guided tour of Paris. You can hop on or off at any stop. It is the easiest and quickest way to get acquainted with all the sights of the city. A VILLAGE IN THE MIDDLE OF PARIS Immediately around the house you will find plenty of food stores, bakeries and supermarkets; literally dozens of restaurants for every taste and pocketbook; as well as museums, theaters, cafés with sidewalk terraces, cinemas and, of course, the studios of famous artists and writers of the past (and present!): Picasso, Gauguin, Modigliani, Max Jacob, Henry Miller and many more. You can virtually step into their lives by discovering their favorite neighbourhood haunts. Hundreds of happy guests often say Villa Picasso is not a house, it's an experience. Enjoy! More
