Loved it so much we came back for New Year!
We booked Partridge Cottage over Christmas. It’s in a lovely rural location. The cottage itself was perfect for us, 3 adults and 2 children. And was beautifully decorated for Christmas. It has everything you need for a lovely relaxing break. The kids loved the tennis court. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we returned for another short-break over New Year! Must shout out Beth too - excellent and prompt comms both before we booked, and during our stay. Would thoroughly recommend Barnacre Cottages!

Exceeded our Expectations
Our stay at Partridge Cottage was wonderful, it was so comfy cosy and relaxing it exceeded our expectations. We found it to be spotlessly clean, with comfy beds and beautiful bed linen. You thoroughly deserve the 5 stars you have been awarded. Also thank you very much for the cake you left for us. We are talking about booking again for next year so we hope to see you and your dad again then.

Great holiday accomodation
4 of us meet up once a year for a college re-union, and this has been the best so far. Excellent accomodation in the heart of the countryside while only a short drive to shops, pubs and restaurants. The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking ( long or short ) and there are some very good eating places, we would recommend Da Carmelo ( italian) and The Bangla Brasserie ( indian). Terry ( the 'host' ) was a great source of help and information and lives ' on site' which is handy if you need any help and there was a wonderful cake waiting for us on arrival ( baked by Terry's wife Sue } which was an added bonus. We would definately recommend these cottages to anyone who likes a tranquil place to stay but is close to a wide variety of leisure activities.

Surpassed our expectations in every way.
Every bit of what we found at the Partridge was as expected ... or better. Terry and Sue made us feel as if we are part of their own family for our 11-day stay. The accommodations were perfect for our 11 days of day trips, watching football, golfing, walking, and eating (way too much!). They also had great advice for which destinations are can't-miss Northern England locations, and which to avoid. Memories of the walk from the Partridge to sit for coffee and scones each morning in Scorton (about 2.5 miles away), through beautiful old narrow roads and occasional public footpaths, will always be treasured by us. The tennis and barbeques that their cottages provided facilities for are two examples of unexpected bonuses that we learned of shortly after arrival. Terry and Sue would stop in almost every day to assure that all was fine with the cottage, along with a daily offer of "Is there anything you need? Any questions?" We felt so incredibly welcome while there. In summary, we cannot imagine that our experience of an 11-day England visit would have been nearly as rich if it were not for the Partridge Cottage ... we've never been so happy to have not selected hotel accommodations. We hope to return to Barnacre, soon.

We had a superb week at Barnacre Cottages
We booked to stay at Barnacre Cottages so that we could see family over Christmas, but at the same time have some space to ourselves. We stayed in Partridge Cottage which sleeps six. When we arrived, Terry came to meet us and showed us around the cottage. A Christmas tree had been put up and decorated very tastefully and the fire was burning. We immediately felt at home. The accommodation was perfect for us, there was a ready supply of logs and coal and we enjoyed having a real fire every evening. The kitchen was very well equipped with both every day and occasion crockery and glasses - something I've never seen before. The bedrooms were good sizes with comfortable beds. We slept in each morning as each bedroom has a black out blind, the only indication of it being morning was the cock crowing - but that was from 8am onwards so it didn't disturb! The cottage was warm - one of things I'd been concerned about as we were visiting during the worst winter for some time! Most days we went for a walk, mainly to Scorton and ate regularly at the Priory which serves delicious food. Garstang is a couple of miles away and has good pubs and supermarkets. The most frustrating thing for us was that the tennis court was covered in snow and being keen tennis players we were hoping to get some tennis in each day! I would recommend Barnacre cottages, whether you are visiting family in the area or whether you want to explore a new area of the country.

Barnacre cottages are lovely.
I have returned to Barnacre several times since first discovering it 5 or 6 years ago (through Premier Cottages brochure). It is my Mum's favourite place in the whole country and we have stayed in many places and cottages (all 5 star). The cottages are clean, cosy and comfortable and well equipped. Sue and Terry are friendly and helpful. The local area is full of lovely places to eat out and shop and the scenery is beautiful ranging from moors to forests to the coast. It is a great place to base yourself & have easy access to many different parts of the country. We can sit in front of an open fire & watch Sky TV or surf the internet, then sleep soundly in comfortable beds. We can breakfast on freshly laid eggs, then wander along the quiet, leafy lanes for an hour before heading out for the day. Barnacre cottages fulfil all my requirements for a home away from home, and I am a very fussy customer. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

Map
About the neighbourhood
Whilst our surrounding countryside is beautiful, there are many places that our guests wish to visit. A traditional place is the Lake District, usually Windermere and Ambleside, which can be reached in less than an hour from here. Lots of pretty villages and towns, amazing views, but also very busy. Blackpool is a very famous seaside town just a 35 minute drive from here. The Pleasure Beach now has a Nickleodeon theme for younger children. The Pepsi Max roller coaster and other thrilling rides. An ice rink and shows. The Tower is worth a visit, with the ballroom that held the finals of the Strictly Come Dancing in 2010, plus an amazing circus. Sandcastles is a tropical indoor pool on the promenade. The Illuminations in autumn on the promenade with tram and horse carriage rides. The football grounds of Manchester City and United, plus Liverpool just an hour away, have been destinations to visit for a surprising number of guests. Whilst the city centre of Manchester for great shopping, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Jack Wiils has been popular. On a rainy day the huge indoor Trafford Centre with cinemas, the amazing Orient eating area and again great shopping and free car parking is worth a visit. For shopping enthusiasts, the discount outlet centres of Cheshire Oaks, the smaller Fleetwood Freeport and Boundary Mill at Colne are good places to spend the day. Further afield, maybe travel back in time to beautiful York and Chester, with ancient buildings and in York the famous Yorvic museum. This part of England, both the countryside and the towns, has an abundance of beautiful places to spend time. Leisure activities available in the area include:Golf courses, pay and play , plus Royal Lytham and Birkdale * freshwater fishing * caving * jet skiing * outlet shopping> * bay fishing * ice skating * live theatre * pier fishing * beachcombing * hiking * sight seeing * bird watching * fly fishing Shooting days, both clay and pheasant. Quad biking, country craft courses, Hedge Laying can all be arranged.
Getting around
As we are down a quiet country lane, having a vehicle is the easiest way to get around the area. However, there is a main bus route on the A6 road a couple of miles from here. The nearest train station is at Lancaster, a larger station at Preston. There are a few local taxi firms based in Garstang, who are happy to provide a service for our guests.
