From here you can plan your day, taking a walk locally or driving further afield and, on your return, enjoying a barbecue with a glass of complimentary wine whilst watching the sun set. Honestly - Pear Tree Garden has the most exquisite sunsets! Maidstone, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks are between 15 to 30 minutes drive away. The M20 leading to London or Folkestone is just a few minutes away, as is the M26 leading to the M25. Don't worry though, they are far enough away so as not to hear them! There are some beautiful Kentish villages nearby and we recommend you visit them. Trains to London Victoria or London Charing Cross take approximately 40 minutes from either Borough Green or Tonbridge stations. Places of interest within one hour's drive of West Peckham: 10 minutes: Ightham Mote / Hop Farm Family Park 15 minutes: Tonbridge Castle / Haysden Country Park / Maidstone 20 minutes: Leeds Castle / Penshurst Place 20 minutes: Brands Hatch Motor Race Track 25 minutes: Historic Dockyard, Chatham / Rochester Cathedral and Castle / Knole Park / Sevenoaks / Royal Tunbridge Wells / Bluewater Shopping 30 minutes: Hever Castle / Groombridge Place / Tenterden / Bewl Water 45 minutes: Bodiam Castle 50 minutes: Whitstable 1 hour: Canterbury / Hastings / Rye / Folkestone / Eastbourne / Bexhill / Battle There is plenty of golf locally. Ask Steve - an avid golfer! Haysden Country Park in Tonbridge has a wealth of activities including swimming in the indoor/outdoor pool, sailing, fishing and a children's play area. Mote Park in Maidstone has pitch & putt, a skatepark and a miniature railway on Sunday afternoons during the summer. Royal Tunbridge Wells is home to The Assembly Hall Theatre, The Historic Pantiles, The Spa Valley Railway and Dunorlan Park, plus much, much more! Sevenoaks has done it's best to avoid the modern world and has really quirky little areas, plus the wonderful Knole Park and Knole House, offering a magnificent National Trust stately home within the most beautiful parkland, abundant with free-roaming deer.

Everything you could want in a well located kentish cottage
We had a very good stay in this lovely cottage. The bed was very comfortable and the cottage had everything you could need. Rita and Steve went out of the way to make our stay better. The welcome pack is exceptional and was very much appreciated. The cottage is in an excellent position to explore local tourist attractions such as castles and historic buildings whilst enjoying the peaceful country surroundings.

A true gem
Cosy, well equipped cottage in a great location for exploring Kent's famous 'Garden of England'. Steve and Rita couldn't have been more helpful and supplied a generous welcome pack including milk, bread and eggs plus pears from the orchard and other goodies. I found the bed very comfortable, but hubby prefers a very firm mattress which this wasn't. (Note that the circular bed has been pensioned off!!).

Superb country location yet close to all ameninties
Rita and Steve our hosts could not be more helpful in making out stay enjoyable.. Pear Tree Cottage is a snug, comfortable rural retreat in the beautiful Kent countryside --, yet it's strategically close to London ( an hour only by car). It's also offers ready accessibility to other areas in southern England.. In short, Pear Tree cottage is a great base for one to relax and recharge their batteries -- after taking in the the myriad sights and attractions of the large urban centers.

Tranquil Oasis
Beautiful spot & glorious weather. Great hosts and thoughtful welcome basket. There was also lots of basic bits, you neglect to bring when self-catering. We ate in the garden every evening as we were able to cook everything in the excellent facilities. Perfick break!! We hope to come again. Thank you x

Absolutely Beautiful Garden!
We really enjoyed our stay at Pear Tree Garden! The cottage was very comfortable, with a large open living, kitchen and dining area. It is well stocked with everything one would need to feel at home. We loved the Swan on the Green, which is walking distance! The food and beer from their own brewery was excellent but for me the best of the best was the pear orchard. There is actually a small pear orchard with a patio and table set and a chimney style bar-b-que. A walk across the orchard reveals the most beautiful view of countryside and villages. We also enjoyed a few walks along the public footpath that wound through the farmland. It was the best!

Wonderful Countryside Experience
The cottage is set in beautiful Kent countryside with views of the Downs and lovely sunsets - weather permitting! It is down a farm track path but easily drivable in a regular car (slowly) but yet within easy walking of a great brew pub (The Swan on the Green - Trumpeter Best recommended) We were spoilt with the hottest April day in 79 years during our stay and really enjoyed breakfast on the patio! The cottage is well furnished, and the kitchen well stocked with everything you need. As previously mentioned the welcome pack is great too. Steve and Rita were away when we visited but we were well taken care of by Ann so many thanks. Although it feels isolated the road links are very good and nearby towns quickly accessed. We will definitely stay here again next time we visit the area.

About the neighbourhood
The tiny village of West Peckham is situated so conveniently. Within just a few miles you can find plenty to keep you entertained. With theatres in Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells, cinemas in all three plus Tonbridge, parks, woodland, farmland, stately homes, castles, fabulous restaurants and gastro pubs....and the list goes on and on. Cricket on the village green is a regular occurrence, plus there is the occasional visit from Morris Dancers who perform outside The Swan On The Green. How English can you get?! The menu at The Swan changes regularly and everything is cooked from fresh. The River Medway runs close to West Peckham and, on a warm, sunny day, nothing is nicer than a stroll along the river bank. If you are a keen angler there is fishing in Yalding and Haysden Country Park. The Hop Farm Family Park has lots of things to do and see, including the Oast Houses where Londoners, from Victoria's day up to the late 1950s, would come hop picking for 6 weeks. The hops would then be used to make beer for Whitbread. They still grow hops here but for decorative use only now. You can buy a hop bine to adorn your house in September. You can reach the Hop Farm Family Park in 10 minutes from Pear Tree Garden.A 5-minute drive away on Seven Mile Lane is an excellent restaurant, The Moody Mare. They have regular live music too.In Hadlow, again only 5 minutes away, you can find local shopsJust through Hadlow is a farm shop attached to Hadlow Agricultural College selling local produce. In the Spring you can see hundreds of lambs frolicking in the fields. They organise special days when you can 'meet the lambs'. For keen golfers there are several excellent private and public golf courses nearby, the nearest being Wrotham Heath which is just 10 minutes away.If you are a motor racing fan, Brands Hatch is no more than 20 minutes away.

How to get there
If you are driving (recommended) the easiest access is from the M20, just 5 miles away. By train, you can come to either Borough Green Station or Tonbridge Station. A taxi from either will cost about £15-£20. If you are driving from Heathrow Airport it should take approximately 1 hour 15 mins. From Gatwick Airport should take no more than 45 minutes. Eurostar from Folkestone should take less than an hour. Ferry from Dover should take about an hour.
