This 150 year old cottage, complete with large cosy open stone fire, 2 bedrooms, beautiful gardens and covered converted stone barn BBQ area, is the perfect base for a rejuvenating holiday. A 10 minute walk from the cottage, the rugged Atlantic Ocean smashes against a rocky shore, carving out cracks and crevices just waiting to be explored. Breathtaking coastal walkways extend for miles along cliff edges, past secret beaches and caves. There is simply no better place to experience firsthand the mighty power of the fierce Atlantic. Stroll across the rocky coastline and discover the beautiful, unspoilt long sandy Dunmoran Strand, just 1.5km from the cottage. Stop in the local famous 300 year old thatched pub, The Beach Bar at Aughris, for some freshly caught seafood, traditional Irish music and a pint of Guinness in front of the ocean. Try your hand at surfing here at Dunmoran (1.5km) or at the Beach Bar Surf School at Aughris (5 minute drive), which offers adult and children's classes and summer schools. Other world renowned surfing beaches at Easkey (19km) and Strandhill (27km) are both under half an hour by car. The coast offers an abundance of other activities like boat trips to Inishmurray, kayaking at Ballisodare Bay or Aughris and deep sea fishing at Enniscrone (30km). If its golf you're after, the cottage is ideally located between three famous links courses; Enniscrone (30km), Strandhill (27km) and Rosses Point (30km). Highlights of the stunning Sligo mountain walks include the majestic Ben Bulben and the mystical Knocknarea, where legend has it that Queen Maebh, the ancient Queen of Connaught, is buried. On the South face of Knocknarea is a 60ft cascading glen. Hidden from the world, this narrow chasm is rich with flora and provides an unmissable 1km long walk in paradise. The megalithic passage tombs at Carrowmore, Co. Sligo are some of the oldest and most significant in Ireland, dating back to 3700BC. Other activies for the kids, like horse riding, indoor Karting, swimming, a brand new Zero Gravity Skate Park (the largest of its kind in the North West), mountain bike trails, Gillighan's World (enchanted Faerie Gardens and miniature village) and even an Eagle sanctuary (the largest in Ireland) are all available around county Sligo. For some free fun for the very little ones, there's a first class playground and running track a very short drive away. A half hour away by car, Sligo town is easily accessible, with cobbled streets, shops and restaurants along the Garavogue river and old style pubs offering a flavour of Sligo's own renowned style of traditional Irish music. Or, if you want full immersion into the country side, there's a great local shop less than 5 minutes walk away. It's easy to get lost in the muddle of a fast moving world. At Katie Ann's Cottage, time will stay still.More
