Attempted Deposit Scam, Smelly hot tub and generally tatty property
The house was ok... not terribly clean, but that wasn't a problem because it was impossible to keep the mud out anyway on the weekend we visited because it was very wet and the track was soaked. It's about half a mile from the road... you can get a little way up the track with a high 4wd but you certainly can't get all the way and trekking to it with all your stuff and all the wood you need is quite a miserable job ! Without wood you can't use the hot tub or sauna and there is no hot water in the house... there are some electric heaters though so the property itself isn't freezing. The hot tub took about 7 hours to heat and was brilliant on our first afternoon/evening... but when we re-heated it the next day it was smelly and cloudy so I would recommend it's a one time only event. The local pub was brilliant - The Swan Inn - thoroughly recommend that ! We had an ok weekend all in all - but when we stripped the beds (as we were instructed to) on the last day we realised how grotty the bedding was and then when I asked about getting my £200 deposit back I was first ignored, then I was told there was a broken radio and a melted cushion, but no mention of the deposit return... we had nothing to do with either of these things - most of the things in the cottage were old and tatty - I explained this and continued to try and get in touch about the deposit but calls, texts, whatsapps, emails, and a paypal request was ignored... in the end my friend called and Dan picked up... he said he thought one of my emails was rude but that he would return the deposit and put the phone down on her. I didn't get it back so I emailed Dan again and he said he'd told my friend that he wanted an apology for my allegedly rude email before he would return it... I sent him an apology (which of course I didn't mean!) and I finally got the deposit back ! In a nutshell - it's fun to be outside in the forest and the hot tub for one day, but it's not worth staying in the cottage for the minimum 3 nights... it's tatty, hard to get to and to leave and even harder to get your deposit back !

Avoid!
Avoid! The host was unreasonable and rude. Blamed us for issues that had nothing to do with us. Withheld deposit and avoided our calls, texts and emails! . Then requested an apology for a frustrated email we sent, before he would refund us. Think he must have some issues. We left the place in good order and tidy and we are shocked we were treated in such unprofessional manner. A lot of hassle after , so definitely not worth it . Left a bad feeling on our weekend away .

It’s not worth the price we paid, we booked for 11 person but the bed can only accommodate 10 person that my son end up sleeping on the floor , upstrair toilet floor is leaking down to the kitchen, we emailed the host on the first day but no reply til we check out, So we have to share the the down floor toilet, the hot tub is dirty that we end up cleaning for us to be able to use, dusty and loads of cubweds in one of the bedroom downstairs.

This property was peacefully located but still within a good distance to the local village. A lovely outside area made for some great evenings enjoying food and the woodlands around. The campfire was a big hit with the younger ones being able to toast marshmellows. All in all the cottage made for a relaxing break.

Really enjoyed our time here. Very scenic and the house and facilities were great. Make sure you bring a lot of wood! (We needed more than we thought we would)

We have just come back from 3 nights at mellow mountain and we all had a fantastic stay! Plenty to do for all ages, the children enjoyed it thoroughly. The hill is rather steep to get to the property but once you’re up there it is worth it. The property itself is ideal for family/group gatherings and equipped with everything you need. We used roughly 6 bags of woods between 9 of us, this heated the hot tub (took 6 hours), the sauna, camp fire, tipi and aga. Overall it was perfect and a bargain! Would definitely return.

From booking to check-out, it has been a wonderful experience and we didn't want to leave! We're the "city" type of people so we had pre-arrival jitters. Dan, the host/owner, gave good instructions for arrival, and boy, what a fantastic stay it was!!It's a beautifully refurbished 1500's house (see the plaque at the house) with wifi, mains electric, heating, hot water, showers/toilets, modern cooker and under counter fridge.Want to reconnect to Mother Nature? This is YOUR retreat! Bring eco-friendly washing up liquid, toilet roll and shower gel as this runs into the ground water (toilets run into a septic tank). We made full use of the indian style Tipi, sleeping in at night and feeling close physically and spiritually to nature - comes with a wood burner. There's no TV, but won't be missed either We explored the local wood and foraged for twigs and branches to help with burning in the campfire and wood burning - axe is provided to chop your wood.We was a group of 9, adults and kids, so we got through alot of wood. You can bring your own, or Dan will provide a contact number for a local gentleman to deliver - and you get plenty for the cost! We paid 80 which provided a tonne bag, delivered to the "turnaround" spot. To power everything (Arga, Living Room fire place, hot tub, sauna, Tipi and Campfire) for 5 days, we needed 5 bags (brought ourselves) and the local delivery which left us with some spare logs for the next guests (you're welcome ).It's an absolutely beautiful house in an amazing hidden woodland. Please PLEASE, look after this house! Alot of love, sweat (literally), time and cost has gone into this. If you can't respect our environment, find a city hotel!Final Thoughts:- We came in a 17 seater minibus. Arrive in daylight hours.- Any vehicle larger than a family sized car, reverse up the access lane to drop off.- Pack light, or be prepared to make a couple of trips from the end of the lane up to the house (steep walk, so no high heels)! Access to the house is a walk up-hill. If you are heavily pregnant, mobility impaired, have problems breathing/severe heart conditions, it may be wise to seek other accommodation. However, the benefits of staying here far outweigh any negatives. Don't forget, it's easier to go down!- We will be coming back! - Pay attention to Dan's email welcome pack once paid.- Local wood delivery.- Away from civilisation - bliss!- Cart/wheel barrows provided - very useful!- WoRtH eVeRy PeNnY!

Lovely dog friendly cottage and be prepared to carry luggage up the hill
Gorgeous cottage, once we'd found it. The directions need a bit of clarity, especially as you need to walk up the hill with luggage. Comfortable and clean throughout although in need of little touches of TLC here and there. Lovely quality bathrooms/shower rooms although slightly quirky layout - ground floor bathroom only accessible through a bedroom - Just as well we are all friends!. A couple of great walks from the front door - walks link sent in booking instructions, which we printed and left in the cottage folder. Wood ordered from the local contact sent, which needed wheelbarrowing up the hill. Be prepared to chop into smaller pieces - all part of the fun. Sauna was fab!

A real hidden gem
Here's what our group said; We were looking to get away from London and found Mellow Mountain to be the perfect hidden gem. The cottage is renovated to a high standard and you can star gaze through the conservatory roof or lie in bed and look at the moon through the skylights... the nature is amazing with Buzzards flying overhead and you can hear Owls at night. We were one of the first groups to try out the wood burning Sauna which is great as it heats up quicker than the hot tub and leaves you feeling fantastic. We will be returning in the Summer! --------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a beautiful part of Wales, the valleys and hills are stunning views from the cottage, the walks are great. Llangollen and Chirk are lovely; Pubs and shops not far away, you can walk to The Swan pub in 10 mins (take a torch though) good Wi-Fi... a retreat from daily life. You need to be reasonably fit to enjoy this place. Lots of things provided, little torches, cooking basics etc. The fire pit and tepee are great for kids and for being outside. The kids slept in the tepee and loved it. The price was really good for the number of people the site can hold. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 of us booked and what a fantastic weekend we had. The cottage was beautiful with great facilities for the group size and a wonderful setting. Secluded enough from the main village but close enough for a leisurely stroll to The Swan Inn (a lovely and very hospitable pub) and only 10 mins drive from Chirk where there's a great butchers, green grocers, bakers and Co-op etc. Fantastic views from the front terrace for morning coffees, a lovely camp fire area and the hot tub was a welcome treat for the end of the day. There's lovely walks in the area and one from the bottom of the drive. A fantastic find and excellent value for money. Dan (who we booked through) was really accommodating and helpful in the run up to our holiday aiding a weekend for 10 people to run very smoothly. Highly recommended, we'll certainly be booking again for another memorable weekend.
