Though the house is less than five minutes' walk from the city centre, it has the feel of a country cottage. The front door leads directly into the living room which is bright and comfortable with a wood-burning stove, two sofas and a dining table. There is also a freeview television, and free internet connection. This leads to a well-equipped kitchen and then to a small utility area with washing machine. Beyond this is a modern bathroom and access to an attractive patio area with pots of flowers, metal table, chairs and bench. Quite steep stairs (not suitable, I'm afraid, for people with mobility problems) lead to the first and second storeys. Beyond this is a modern bathroom and access to an attractive patio area with pots of flowers, metal table, chairs and bench. On the first floor are two double bedrooms, one of which is a generous size and has the original fireplace. The second flight of stairs leads to the beamed attic bedroom which runs the depth of the house. York Minster can be seen from one of the windows. Off it is an ensuite room comprising a toilet, sink and shower. There is a travel cot available for babies or toddlers. The house is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac and there is free parking (with a permit which we lend). It is an ideal base for those who like to be close to the city centre and within easy walking distance of its attractions, who appreciate traditional buildings and who enjoy a house which is quirky, comfortable and has no hidden costs (there are no booking or cleaning fees and no damage deposit required). DISCOUNTS MAY BE AVAILABLE IN SOME CIRCUMSTANCES - EG REPEAT BOOKINGS OR BOOKINGS LONGER THAN THREE DAYS. DO GET IN TOUCH TO SEE. More

Hi Norma, I'm sorry you didn't like the house but most people like the traditional, cosy style and many come back again. Perhaps you would have been better choosing a modern minimalist place of which there are many in York, though more expensive. We do...More

About the neighbourhood
York York has many heritage sites and museums including the famous Jorvik Centre and the Castle Museum. It has played a central role in English history and this is reflected in the ancient streets and many historic buildings of which the most famous is the Minster itself. It is the home of the Railway Museum with its fascinating engines and carriages. It is also an excellent place to shop and to eat and drink and be entertained. There are a series of specialist festivals throughout the year.
