A great central location, not only for visiting York, but as a base for exploring Yorkshire further. Comfortable and cosy, well-furnished, terrific Wi-Fi and easy to contact the owner or housekeeper. A marvellous stay.

About the neighbourhood
The City of York is steeped in England’s history, once England’s northern capital, was founded on the banks of the river Ouse, 71 AD by the IX Legion of the Roman Empire as a fortified military base. In AD 306 Constantine was declared Emperor of all of Rome here, then the city was known as Eboracum - which means the place where Yew trees grow. Later visitors include the Vikings who crossed the North Sea in their longships, c.866 AD, and sailed up the river Ouse to a triangular piece of land where the Ouse is joined by the river Foss. Here they settled and named the place Jorvik. Now known as Coppergate it is one of the most significant Viking excavations sites outside of Scandinavia, over 800 items on display at the world famous Jorvik Viking centre where visitors can take a journey back...
