I can't fault this property, my 7 friends and I travelled from all over the country and thanks to the helpful directions from the owner all of us found our way to the property despite some local road closures. Gabor the caretaker met me as arranged and showed me round and helped organise the parking, we knew he was there...

Management response:

Alison - Thank you for navigating the road closures which were very necessary for major road resurfacing. Delighted you enjoyed the house and gardens and local area - Painswick is a a very picturesque village with a couple of new restaurants. Thanks again for staying at Horsepools. Paul

I can't give enough praise for this wonderful house and it's history. The house and grounds are beautiful. Yes, the decor is dated but it adds to the experience. We got an Ocado delivery on the first night and ate in both nights. There is a fire, which we sat in front of playing Articulate. The house is spacious so...

Management response:

Delighted you enjoyed your stay over Easter! We recently had the history of ownership of Horsepools prepared by a historian and it does make interesting reading I agree! Thanks again for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back to Horsepools sometime.

It was a pleasure staying at Horsepools. The owner, Paul, was very kind and obliging when we asked if we could rent the house at the last minute and bring our cat with us. The house is very big with a spacious open garden. There's plenty of bedrooms and two of them are ensuite, the shared 'family bathroom' though, is...

Management response:

Thanks for taking the time to review us. Yes it was a little challenging with the very last minute booking and the cat who left his mark and more all over the house! Anyhow glad you enjoyed the stay and tea and biscuits will be provided on your next stay! Paul

About the neighbourhood
Horsepools House is at the highpoint of the village (or hamlet) of Edge, just 5 mins from the quaint popular Cotswold village of Painswick, and 10 mins from Stroud and Gloucester. It has extensive views over the Painswick valley to the east and to the Severn River and Wales to the west.
This is a surprisingly rural setting adjacent to the Cotswold Way with wonderful countryside walking, working farms and rugged commons very close by. There are many villages with pubs and restaurants within 10-15 mins and the Edgemoor Inn serving excellent food is walkable.
Plenty to do in Gloucester, Stroud has a great Saturday local farmers market, Painswick is a quaint Cotswold village, there is horseriding, gliding and plenty else in the area.
Getting around
You really need a car to get around the area - unless you are coming for a complete retreat when you can get taxis from Gloucester or Stroud Station easily and the local supermarkets all deliver.
There is so much available within 20 mins drive - Gloucester with its Cathedral, the docks, and plenty of shopping, Stroud with its Saturday market noted as one of the best in the UK by the Telegraph (6th May 2017), numerous smaller attractive villages, Slimbridge wetlands wildlife trust, and plenty more.
Car advised

Railway: Stroud or Gloucester: 8.0 km
