The lovely old farmhouse that is Deer Park truly offers the best of all worlds - a stunning, peaceful setting with awe-inspiring views and plenty of extremely comfortable and well-appointed space inside. Five bedrooms accommodate ten people in comfort - and NEVER underestimate the luxury of having four bathrooms whilst on holiday! There will always be one available! The heart of the house is the wonderful, warm and welcoming kitchen with its wooden floor, Belfast sink and four-door Aga. Two fridges (we use one for drinks), and a really speedy dishwasher ensure ease of catering. A huge oak farmhouse table seats ten in comfort, and two sets of French doors open directly out onto the terrace where an outside table and chairs also seat ten with ease. The terrace, where we also have a large Weber barbecue, is the perfect spot to have a sundowner drink - the views are really stunning. The sun sets straight out to sea in the Summer, and the sunsets are often spectacular. We and our guests have often seen the 'Green Flash' as the sun disappears over the horizon, and it never fails to thrill us. After the sun has gone down, you can move to the lower terrace which is a cosy spot with a sofa and armchair positioned around a fire pit or drift back inside. Back inside, and directly above the kitchen is the larger of the two sitting rooms, which has commanding views all the way up the coastline to Tintagel and Lundy on the horizon. A wood burner, comfy sofas and large TV with Sky provide an elegant retreat. Downstairs, leading off the kitchen, the second sitting room, or snug, has an open fire, another TV with Sky and yet more comfy seating. Masses of books, board games and jigsaws provide extra diversion in both rooms. Can I just say that two separate sitting rooms are a huge plus when there are up to ten of you: one can be the social area for adults, the other cartoons for children - or whatever you feel like - the combinations are endless! There is more on the ground floor - a good-sized entrance hall with sofa and (another) wood burner, then leading off that room is the old kitchen or scullery, where the washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer are situated. There is also a gas cooker here in case you are unfamiliar with an Aga (don't worry, you'll love it!). There's another Belfast sink there which is a great place to dump wet swimsuits, and the shower room at the end is well-situated for a warming shower after a day on the beach. The whole of these rooms are paved in slate which means no worries about sandy shoes etc., and this kitchen is also the perfect place to park wet dogs until they dry off. Those of you who love Doc Martin will recognise many locations very close by, including the whole of Port Isaac, which is Port Wenn in the programme. In fact part of our house features in one episode, and the film crew is often to be seen filming in and around the area. The great surfing beach of Polzeath is five miles away, and the wonderful sailing mecca of Rock is a similar distance. Take the ferry from Rock across to Padstow for fantastic gastronomic experiences at one of Stein's places, and many wonderful stately homes and gardens are within a 30 minute drive.More
