A bundle of logs and kindling is provided at the beginning of your stay free of charge and refreshed weekly if your stay lasts for over a week. Matches provided. Additional wood can be purchased for a (small economical) fee during your stay. There are four large sash windows which can be opened should the weather be very hot. CHILDREN: Due to the nature of the property, especially at the Mezzanine level, while we encourage 'Babes~in~arms', but we do not feel it suitable for 'mobile' children between 9 months and 8 years old. Sorry. All of the baby equipment is of a good quality and is checked and steam cleaned before and after each use. Please let us know when you book if you would like to use these facilities so that we may prepare them ahead of your arrival. DOGS & PETS: Sorry, but due to the nature of the property and lack of enclosed garden, we do not feel it suitable for animals to stay. About the neighbourhood
Beautiful rural historic part of the English countryside. Traditionally a 'playground' for visiting royalty this ensured the preservation of the rural character of the smallest county. More recently predominantly farming , with lovely countryside perfect for walks, cycle rides and getting close to nature. R.Water is internationally famous for it's birdlife and the two beautiful nature reserves on it's shores.Ospreys are now well established here and return to the Water each year, but the number of species of birdlife now at R. Water is immense. Despite an increase in visitor numbers recently Rutland retains an Olde World charm and laid back character. Much in Little is the County motto and there is too much enjoy and explore.
Getting around
It's preferable to have a car as Wing is a small village with only a limited bus service. Many local Taxi firms available. It's possible to walk to Rutland Water, if you are fairly fit, but it is a climb to return as Wing is on a hill overlooking The Chater Valley. By car it's about 5 mins to the nearest point on Rutland Water or 20 mins or so to the opposite shore. Nearby Shaws Coaches run outings all over the UK. Trains run from Oakham, 10 mins away by road, or Kettering, which is about half an hour by road.
