Town: Uppingham is a picturesque traditional Rutland market town with honey-coloured stone buildings offering a range of speciality shops, traditional family retailers, antique galleries, art galleries and tea rooms as well as country pubs, a weekly Friday market and an award-winning Heritage Trail which highlights the many historic features of the town. In the centre is the Market Square with the original fountain, where a temporary livestock market has been held every year since 1889. Uppingham and the surrounding area are steeped in history and offer something to suit all tastes and interests.
We were a little worried reading the previous review which we would not agree with.
On arrival the cottage was ready early. Lovely underfloor heating in modern utility room. Kitchen was large with a lovely cottage feel , very clean and coffee, tea , sugar , milk and delicious biscuits left. Lounge quaint with an electric fire and central heating. Never felt cold. The bedrooms were cosy and beds comfy. Slept very well. Lovely cottage garden secure for the dog. The area is wonderful , peaceful and pretty. Church bells heard on a Sunday and superb village pub. The bath was ok for getting ready however the only down side was no proper shower. I am surprised the owners didn't fit a shower in the downstairs utility room. Apart from that we had a faultless stay and even then the bath wasn't an issue. Would 100% recommend.

Dissapointed
Left after one night, had booked for three nights for a birthday treat. Clean enough but poorly equipped and unlike all other cottages we have stayed in over the years, there was no welcome pack apart from the smallest carton of milk and a box of cookies.
The Rayburn boiler is so noisy it is distracting, a small electric fire in the sitting room is also noisy.
I know it was March and it was wet and chilly, but we spent a cold miserable night on hard beds and left in the morning.
Don't bother with the local farm shop; over priced and under stocked for basic items.
Pet friendly? Fence is ineffective for small dogs, no bowls, treats or towels supplied as usual in all other dog friendly cottages we have visited.
The kitchen is badly designed, not usually something would bother me, or would comment on, but just added to the poor value stay.
Might be ok in summer but not out of season for sure.
