Lovely family break
Having previously stayed at Pekes Manor with a large group we decided to return as a family of 4 (1.5yr old and 3.5yr old) and chose Gate Cottage. Again it didn’t disappoint, from the offset the communication and booking process is excellent and stress free-it’s so handy being able to book extras such as high chairs, cots and even fresh eggs! The cottage itself is a quaint, two bed self contained house-securely surrounded by fences, it’s very peaceful and we appreciated the black out blinds in the kids bedroom. The only issue we had were the abundance of insets/bugs downstairs in the house (spiders, earwigs, flying ants nest and beetles), which should be expected in an older property as there are no pvc doors or windows. The grounds and facilities are beautiful, we can never get enough of the heated indoor pool-it’s amazingly warm and perfect to keep the little ones entertained, along with the mini playground-trampoline, slide/swings, mini kids house. There is so much to do in the local area, the document you are sent with booking is hugely useful for planning activities; The pub down the road ‘The Gun’ was a great place to have food, they have a lovely play section in the garden and a deal on pizzas Mon/Wed which we took advantage of. We visited knockhatch which was a brilliant day out-it’s pretty much a park dedicated to children’s play areas with animals to see too, we spent a whole day here. The hailsham cinema was also brilliant for an afternoon activity when the rain came down. Thank you for having us!

We are son glad that Emma-clare enjoyed her new stay at Pekes so much, and had a really good look into all the things to do round here. We were all very concerned about her insect problem, and our team went immediately to investigate. They did find a couple of very small spiders inside, and ants outside (dealt with). I haven't heard any si,ilar comments from other Giests there. It may be that it was hot and the windows were open - country life as she says! Kildare Pekes manor

Our May Stay
Once again the beauty and tranquility at Pekes Manor worked it’s magic and we came away feeling refreshed and relaxed. Gate Cottage has a charm all its own and we are now approaching ten years of visiting this little haven. The cottage is being slowly updated and refurbished but it’s old fashioned ambience is part of its unique charm to us. We and our dogs love it♥️

Half term break with teenagers and dogs
Everyone in my group enjoyed the week in the Gate cottage. 3 teenage boys swam, played tennis and rambled to the local pub. The dogs had plenty of secure space to run around. And I enjoyed my early morning cup of tea in the leafy garden.

Pekes manor gate cottage
We arrived with two adults, two kids and two dogs, the house was clean and tidy although there were a few issues which were reported to management. Overall though the cottage was what we wanted, it was old in an area steeped in history, a booklet was in the cottage explaining the essentials and giving a history of the properties and current and previous owners. The gardens are well kept and a small play area for kids and adults, a heated indoor pool for all and tennis court, it also has a sauna and jacuzzi which are available to the manor guests only. There are bridle ways and footpaths leading away from the property. Some of the other land available to use is a little overgrown with long grass, ie to run your dogs and kids. There is a lot of cattle and foxes squirrels etc so unless very obedient, don’t let your dog off the lead. The gate cottage was pretty well equipped we found most kitchen utensils we wanted. The beds were very comfortable, and had clean fresh linen. I will say the stairs are very steep! WiFi is slow but does work. Tv video and radio in the lounge. There is an oil burner so there was plenty of hot water, we didn’t use the heating, log fire place in the lounge with logs. The toilet shower over bath is downstairs. The garden is huge with some of it in a wooded area and it is secure for both kids and dogs. The cottage has been modernised in the past but is now in need of a makeover. Would we go again or recommend to others, yes we would.

This is such a full Review that we couldn't have written it better ourselves! Just to pick up on Colin's comments: We have left the grass in the Park long this year for the 1st time, hoping that it's a more natural and earth-friendly method, but yes I can see that it's not very dog friendly. Pause for thought! Work has already started on repairs and improvements to Gate Cottage exterior and interior. Indeed the stairs are very steep, and we do try to make that clear, but I do take heart from a 92-year old lady who slept upstairs for a couple of nights the other day, and had no problems! So glad that his group had a nice time, and that they would come again! Kildare

Idyllic cottage experience
Gate Cottage at Pekes Manor is a slightly more private experience than the other properties of Pekes Manor. As such, it offers a nice level of privacy. The experience of our wedding guests was 5 out of 5 stars. All loved the beautiful scenery and the tranquil feel of the property. Highly recommended.

I agree on all the already written good reviews :-)! Also a big plus: there is a lot to see in the near area Little places like Alfriston and Lewes, lots of antique shops More little shops, vintage and antiques in Hastings (the warf, and close by Highstreet, Georgestreet) and Brighton (the Laines) Go have a drink and a chat with the local people in Six Bells A great meal in The Gun And when you want to see 7 sisters, a great view from Newhaven!

As their lovely Review shows, the delightful Muns family made full use of their time at Pekes, and drank in quite a lot of what our corner of Sussex has to offer, while still leaving more for next time. They were a charming and enthusiastic family group who enjoyed the Pool and Jacuzzi too, and their nice Belgian dog Bo learned a bit of English too.

A Little Haven.
Gate Cottage has become very dear to us as we have stayed many times since 2009! The location is stunning, charming little cottage and Pekes Manor itself is so beautiful and peaceful. Being dog friendly is a priority for us and Gate Cottage is perfect for us and our dogs!

About the neighbourhood
Guests can use the shared indoor swimming pool and hard tennis court and wander round the extensive gardens and park. Walks lead away from the house, and link up with other country footpaths The sea and the lovely Seven Sisters cliffs are 10 miles away, there are lots of interesting & entertaining things for adults and children to do locally, and the seaside towns of Eastbourne, Hastings and Brighton are within easy reach. The nearby village shop is open 8 to 5 (Saturday 9 to 12:30, closed Sunday). There are 2 pubs (the 6 Bells and the Gun) each about 1 mile away. Hailsham is about 4 miles away with Supermarkets, Banks and many other shops.
Getting around
Pekes is very rural. There are many country walks nearby, but otherwise a car is necessary to visit all the other attractions in the area.
Access

How to get there
Polegate is our nearest rail station, and there are quite frequent trains from London Victoria, Gatwick airport, Brighton and Eastbourne. There are always taxis at the station, and Pekes is about a 15 minute ride away. By car, turn off the A22 along Nash Street. In less than a mile, at a cross roads signed Muddles Green and Chiddingly, turn right up Pekes long drive. The bus service is not a good option.
