‘Towancott’ is thought to be the oldest dwellings in Porthtowan, and dates back to the 1600s. It is one of the few real cottages to be found in Porthtowan, and was the original farmhouse to Towan Farm. Now a separate property, Towancott has been updated to include modern amenities and well equipped kitchen, while maintaining a cottage-like feel.
The cottage sits at the top of Porthtowan valley, so a trip to the beach is via the scenic cliff path. It is also ideally situated for walks along the Coastal Paths towards Chapel Porth or Portreath.
During the 17th and 18th Centuries, Towancott was owned by the Tonkin family who are of local significance. Google us for more historical information about the cottage and local area.

Porthtowan is a coastal village that sits between St Agnes and Portreath on the North Cornwall coast. The beach is proud of its Blue Flag status and is the destination of surfers and families, alike.
The local landscape is dotted with Wheals which indicate the industrial history of the area. Views across the cliffs towards St Ives are breathtaking, and dolphins and seals have frequently been spotted playing in the waves.
Down on the beach itself, the Blue Bar is the perfect place to watch the waves or the sunset, while enjoying a coffee, or a glass something. It also serves fabulous food!
If you want to ditch the car, the 304 Bus runs between Porthtowan beach and Truro. The nearest bus stop to Towancott is on the main road, and requires a 10/15 minute walk.

It is preferable to travel by car to Towancott in order to take advantage of the many attractions that Cornwall has to offer. It is also possible to travel to fly to Newquay or take the train to Truro, where there is a Hertz car hire branch on site. The sleeper train to Truro/Camborne from London Paddington is also quite fun!
