You can rent a car or hire a taxi if you want to get around to some where further, but I find that majority of the time, you can get around to wherever you like just by walking.
For those who are adventurous at heart, there's air-conditioned buses running to and from San Jose to San Lucas. You can see different towns and visit different beaches within 30min bus ride.
