Traumhaft schönes Haus in toller Umgebung

Good location in a village setting
Easy contact with Adonis via email prior to our visit. Face-to-face contact on arrival (collection at the airport). The villa is within easy driving distance of all the major (and minor) sites in central Crete and had everything we needed including a pool and an upstairs balcony for evening drinks. The village has a small store for all your immediate needs and an excellent kafeinion for evening meals. The added bonus of staying in one of the Christina Villas is that you receive a good deal on car hire.

Unbelievably good in so many respects
This was the perfect holiday. The villa was lovely and the staff could not have been more helpful in every aspect of making our stay enjoyable. We were met at the airport, shown to the villa and given extremely useful advice in the local taverna - drinks were bought for us. On our third day we had a flat tyre (our fault) and one of the team arrived and replaced the wheel with great charm and efficiency within an hour. The local tavern served us superb meals each night - food, water wine and raki included for fewer than 20 euros per night. Quite excellent.

I had not booked long enough to stay ..but the staff at the Villas made sure we all had somewhere to sleep and eat and also gave us extended time at the Villa so we could have a great last day in Crete.....Everyone was so helpful ...the only thing that spoilt it was the only male adult on the trip snapped his Achilles .....ironic really as we stayed in CRETE....lol

Ideal for families and couples
The amenities and the equipment of the villa were really good: like home! Fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, toster, large fridge, etc. The villa had parking, private pool and garden, as also fireplace and air conditioning. Finally it had even Playstation!!! For our great convenience, as we were travelling with two babies, it had also baby cot and baby chair + washing machine. Pendamodi is a traditional village, close enough to Heraklion (15 minutes by car which we rented), where one can relax while being close to the capital Heraklion. At the taverna close to the villa, we have had the best meetballs in Crete! The staff were friendly and was willing to help. The most impressive was the private chef of the villa, who showed us two cretan recipes! Concluding, the price was very good considering the quality and the amenities of the villa.

Spacious Villa with pool, mountian village easy for touring
well equipt spacious villa with a private pool and parking in very small village. Excellent Service from all Zarcos tours staff - really helpful people who go out of their way to make you welcome. The village is tiny so don't stay here if you want lots of night life. We had really relaxing stay with easy access to main roads for touring and sightseeing.

Authentic Yes - but very secluded
Other reviewers are correct to stress how helpful and kind the owners of these villas are. They met us at the airport with the hire car and gave us a very full and useful breifing. However we then didn't see anybody again until our penultimate day. If you want to stay in an authentic Greek village then this is it. But one cannot over emphasize how tiring the drive becomes going up and down the long 'mountain' trail to civilization each day. The village has only two small cafe type tavernas which we didn't find satisfying in terms of food quality. In the villa itself the kitchen was fully stocked with cooking utensials, but the furniture badly needs upgrading and the beds were very uncomfortable. The pool is cold and as the villa's location is high above sea level it would be so most of the year. As previously reported the dogs are a menace

Authentic experience away from the crowds
Adonis and Zakros Tours made sure our Cretan adventure was authentic and comfortable, from start to finish. We fitted well into Christina II with our 2 adult children, into 2 bedrooms, each with aircon. The upstairs bathroom had a small laundry, and the downstairs bathroom was fully fitted out. The village is in the hinterland, and you definitely need to have a car (which we also hired through Zakros), and there are several larger villages within a few minutes drive. I had the best rabbit stifado of our entire Greek holiday in one of the villages, wish I could remember its name! Lissiandros, a Cretan chef, cooked for us one night, and that was a highlight too.

Villa Christina III
Stored under Christina II, but we actually stayed at Christina III for just over two weeks - found at: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/VacationRentalReview-g189413-d3272134-Pendamodi_Villa_Christina_III_with_private_Pool-Crete.html - but unable to post review there. Pros: 3 bed (1 double, 2 twin) villa with private pool. 2 bathrooms (1 with shower / bath and 1 with shower) + 1 separate toilet as well. Shared balcony (between beds 1 & 2) with good views. Very clean inside with regular maid service. Excellent security with good doors and shutters. Good free WiFi. Get a free Greek meal thrown in, cooked by "Lee". Good support provided by Adonis of Zakros Tours - including being met at airport and escorted to villa (if you take a hire car off them). Air con in every bedroom plus lounge. Decent dining table. Lovely marble stairway. Nice fireplace - not that we used it! Good sunbeds. Lovely selection of fauna in garden. Good stereo. Good outdoor lighting. Fairly secluded garden, even though you are in a village location. Good welcome pack of goodies provided. Good guide in villa. Shops within walking distance. Excellent Taverna in village. Cons: We were initially disappointed upon arrival due to a number of maintenance issues - which gave the appearance of the villa not being rented for a while: 1) The kettle didn't work - was replaced with a new one within a few days. 2) Washing machine did not work - power button faulty - eventually fixed it ourselves. 3) After using it twice, noticed that the table top dishwasher was leaking all over. Maintenance guy eventually came on our penultimate day and could not fix it. So, had to spend the whole holiday washing up by hand - good job the MIL was here! 4) DVD Player remote was incompatible with player - had to resort to playing our DVDs through the PS2. 5) Pool had an ugly "tide mark" - looked like that had built up over a number of rentals. Finally convinced Giorgos to give it a good scrub to bring it upto an acceptable standard. Needs a good jetwash! 6) Outdoor seat was broken. Electrical system kept "tripping out" as it is not correctly specified to cater for the load. Beds were extremely creaky (or was it our load we were putting them under!). Only a standard double in the main bedroom. SAT TV was pretty useless for English channels (had the BBC World Service and precious little else) - other European languages weren't really well catered for either. Constantly scrabbling around to try and find channels showing the Olympics! Horrible smell coming from the drains of the toilets / bathrooms. Although a nice shape, the pool is small, cold (useful at midday - invigorating in the morning and at night!) and liable to lots of debris due to wind and surrounding trees / plants. Smell and evidence of damp near front door and downstairs cupboard. Old style small CRT TV with no SCART sharer (constantly having to change connectors). No parking outside villa - have to use the communal parking up the road. Bulbs blown in various outlets that had not been replaced. BBQ provided, but it is a small basic model. Found it challenging to cook for 4 adults and a child on it! Conservatory stuff furniture provided in lounge - bit uncomfortable. Only a small bench outside - nothing really to sit out and dine with. We did request some cheap white patio furniture - but nothing was forthcoming. Some of the electrical outlets are not securely located on the wall. Not a remote control for all air con units. Could do with a dustbin outside - or maybe that is not the Greek way - as the communal bins are a walk away - wouldn't want to be going there everythime you had a single bag! Door bell does not work. Garden sprinklers are a waste of time - due to their location and the wind, they end up coating the patio and loungers rather than the grass! The dogs opposite are a pain in the backside - yapping most of the time. We bought a water gun to shoot them whenever we were entering or leaving the villa to shut them up! All in all, a few maintenance issues to deal with, but as the villa is cheap anyway, it is good value for money.

The Best Way to Experience Crete
We stayed for a week at Villa Christina II in the village of Pendamodi. Pendamodi is a small village a short drive away from Heraklion, and it was a wonderful base for exploring the island of Crete. We always travel with our son, and we look to stay at places that are affordable, clean, include a kitchen, and room to relax and play. Villa Christina was a perfect fit for us! We also like to get off the well traveled tourist path so that our son can experience the culture of the places we visit, and the location of the Villa in the village of Pendamodi gave us this opportunity. We were well taken care of by Adonis and Zakros Tours. You will need to rent a car, and they offer special rates to visitors who are staying at the Villa. We were met at the airport with our rental car and followed Adonis to the Villa. (He helped us to the port at the end of our stay as well.) Upon arrival at the villa, Adonis sat down with us to talk about what we wanted to do on Crete and gave excellent advice on where to go, how long it takes, and good places to eat. There is an informative guide to the area provided in the Villa as well. Most nights we took advantage of the wonderful hospitality of the local Taverna. The food was excellent, the atmosphere welcoming, and my son made fast friends with the owner. We also had the experience of a local Cretan chef cooking for us at the Villa. It was a delicious experience and highly recommended! Do be advised that your GPS may lead you on interesting, but possibly unwanted, adventures around the island that include tiny roads that are not paved or well marked. We easily avoided traveling these roads by purchasing a map and familiarizing ourselves with the main roads. We could not have been happier with our experience and highly recommend Villa Christina!

About the neighbourhood
Pendamodi is one of the oldest villages of Crete and it is not without importance, that Stefanos Sahlikis wrote his poems there beginning this way in the middle of the 14th century, the Renaissance of Cretan and Greek literature. Today there are a few inhabitants who are well known for their hospitality and sociability.<BR><BR>There are two traditional 'kafenions' one of which also serves traditional 'mezes', Giorgos' "Mezedopoleion", a mix of Cretan cafe and taverna, highly recommended by our guests for his hospitality and dishes. Additionally, a selection of brilliant local taverns can be found within a few kilometres in the surrounding villages and the Christina complex modern snack café is always an alternative and on site.<BR><BR>The village layout, cobbled roads and stone-built houses maintain the design, architecture and structure of the old days. Conveniently located just 15 kilometers from the island’s capital Heraklion, yet a million miles away from its hustle and bustle, some excellent walking country is almost on your doorstep, with the European Hiking Path passing close to the nearby village of Ano Assites, and encompassing many Byzantine Chapels, ravines, river valleys and holly forests, it is truly a place of outstanding natural beauty.
Getting around
Car hire is essential to see Crete and our family's company, Zakros Tours, is a reputable car hire agency so we can arrange special prices for Christina Villa guests.
