We're right next the Galloway Forest Park with lots of trails and the Dark Sky Park for star-gazing. Within a short drive are some world-class golf courses, great beaches, numerous castles including Culzean and Dumfries House, horse-riding establishments, busy towns such as Ayr, Prestwick and Troon, sea-fishing and trips around Ailsa Craig are available from Girvan and a trip aboard the Waverley Paddle Steamer is a great way to visit Arran and take in the glorious coastline. Inland is beautiful Loch Doon, with its rugged scenery, ruined castle, great walks and Ospreys. Glasgow is only an hour away with its excellent shopping, museums and art galleries. More

Thank you for your kind words. We rent cottages ourselves and try to equip our cottage with all the things we would use on holiday.

About the neighbourhood
The picturesque village of Straiton is set in beautiful countryside along side the Water of Girvan. There are great walks, many signposted, and miles of cycle tracks in the Galloway Forest Park. Living in the village is like stepping back in time and we have a strong community spirit. Activities in the local Hall such a whist drives, badminton and carpet bowls are usually well supported with visitors made to feel welcome. Our local shop is community-run with some part time paid staff and a team of volunteers, it is surprisingly well- stocked with fresh bread baked on the premises daily. The Buck coffee shop is very popular with locals and visitors alike and the Black Bull hotel opens in the evenings for delicious meals and refreshments.
Getting around
Straiton is on the 361 bus route with several busses a day connecting to Maybole and Ayr.
