Holiday
We were fortunate to stay at the Old Corner for New Year’s Eve. Illness prevented us staying there over Christmas but Heather was so accommodating and incredibly kind. Situated adjacent to the River it’s a beautiful location and the accommodation was just perfect . Unquestionably the images do not do justice to the spaciousness and comfortable nature of the accommodation. When we return to mid Wales we will definitely book again! Thank you Heather!

The Old Corner Shop
We had yet another great stay at the Old Corner Shop in Berriew. I think this is the 3rd or 4th time we have stayed here and it has always met all our expectations. It is perfect for visiting the area and really does make a great base to come back to each day. Heather is the perfect host and is always very helpful.I’m sure we’ll be back again in the future!!

Lovely cottage in good location
The Old Corner Shop is a lovely, well equipped cottage, very comfortable with everything you could need. Berriew is a pretty village with a local shop, cafe and good pubs all on the doorstep. It is a great location for walks along the river and canal and also very close to Powys Castle which is well worth a visit. I would definitely recommend!

Excellent self catering venue for exploring.
The accommodation was excellent for 4 people and had two bathrooms. The upstairs bath and shower is under an eave and it was easy to bang one's head. This was not a problem as the downstairs shower was used by all.We visited Powys Castle,Shrewsbury and the alternative technology centre during our 4day stay, all within a few miles and all delightful. The owner,Heather met us and there was milk in the fridge and a gift of lemon cakes baked at the local bakery, just across the road. All the villagers were friendly and we had a wonderful meal at an inn just a coulple of miles up the road.I cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough.Caroline Enock

Warm, well-equipped, and a river runs close by - views from bedrooms and veranda.
There were two of us at The Old Corner Shop and we stayed for a week. Berriew is a great centre for exploring the the whole of Powys. It's tucked away about half a mile from the A 483, the road from Welshpool to Newtown, and about five miles from Welshpool; around 10 from Newtown. That busy road could be a hundred miles from Berriew which, at first glance, belongs in a calendar devoted to Cottswolds villages. But here is a working rural village, a community of working people who obviously love the place...as who wouldn't. I know Powys quite well - I used to live in Bleddfa six miles from Knighton. I must have passed Berriew a hundred times. This week we spent exploring the immediate area. We crossed the old bridge (20 yards from our front door) turned left on the right bank of the Rhiw and followed the minor road in the same direction as the river. After two hundred yards there is a bridge. You must go under one of the arches (a fantastic accoustic!) and then turn right to reach the waiting surprise on top of the bridge. It's the Montgomery canal. You can walk the towpath to Abermule in one direction, and Welshpool in the other. So the bridge is basically an aquaduct. I later managed to paddle my blow-up kayak between the two bridges, but didn't venture into the shallows below the aquaduct for fear of ripping the boat. The river joins the River Severn less than a mile from there. We also spent some time just watching the routines of the village: people making their way to Sunday service; children getting the school-bus; farmers moving stock...Everyone was friendly and ready to give us ideas for things to see. On the far side of the A 483 is the River Severn, heading north before turning south close to Shrewsbury. If you go to Montgomery town (and you should) then you're really close to the best part of Shropshire - the area from Bishop's Castle to Clun. Clun leads on to Knighton and Knighton to Prestigne...all the time hugging the border. East again, to head from Presteigne to Herefordshire, where Pembridge awaits you. This village is similar to Berriew, but suffers from the main road running through it. However, that main road leads to the A 44, which can connect you to Hay on Wye, Hereford, Builth Wells, Llandrindod Wells, Rhayader and a feisty young Wye (for the Elan Valley dams). West of Berriew you can reach Lake Vyrnwy. And don't forget Llanidloes and Powis Castle. All I'm saying is that the whole area is a treasure, and the wonders are pretty compact and do not require tank-emptying journeys. But for those without transport, there are buses - Celtic buses - that pass regularly through the village. Heather gave us a great welcome... and a lemon drizzle cake. She's a walking guide book to the village, and to Powys. Our home for seven days felt welcoming from the start. Very comfortable firm double beds, which I'm told turn into singles. We used both rooms. Both have a bathroom, one with a shower, one with a bath (and a shower attachment). All very clean and up-to-date. The kitchen has all necessary equipment: microwave, oven, grill, coffee-pot, etc. The dining table and chairs sit close to the picture window looking out at the church and the trees, which are alive with rooks. If you're lucky, you may hear the bell-ringers doing their thing. We weren't so lucky with the weather, so it was great to have a comfy place to go home to. A television, DVD player and video player in the sitting room. There's a radio/CD player in the kitchen. Great lighting throughout. TWO fantastic reading lamps in the sitting room. And try the ones on the bedside cupboards. You think you won't be able to turn it on, let along read with its light. But you touch it and you find you can. No switch, just a bit of magic. Maybe I should have called this 'A Bit of Magic'. I could go on...already have. Thanks, Heather.

Excellent cottage in village setting
We had a short break in the Old Corner Shop and would most definitely recommend it. It is well equipped, very comfortable and clean with the added bonus of a patio overlooking the river. It's in the centre of a lovely village which has a few shops, two pubs and a very good tea room / delicatessen. We would have no hesitation in returning.

Absolutely superb. Wish we could have stayed longer as such a central location to tour Mid Wales.
Could not fault the cottage. The layout was efficient, and the top patio a bonus. The kitchen was fully equipped, and the washer plus tumble dryer very welcome, as we had a build up of washing to attend to. Heather made sure we were very welcome. Best serviced apartment we have ever stayed in Wales.
