To reach the estate, travel 5 miles from downtown Cruz Bay, halfway through the Virgin Islands National Park, on cool tree-canopied Centerline Road. Only 3/10 of a mile after passing the historic Reef Bay Trail entrance, the road to the estate forks off just to the right of the famous Château Bordeaux restaurant complex. From there, a 1/2 mile paved drive curves around and down to the grand white gates of Chateau Margot. Chateau Margot, like its nearby neighbor Château Bordeaux, shares a name with one of the world's best wines. Margot, a red claret wine of ""truly incomparable distinction and class"", always ""well-balanced and unsurpassed by any other wine on earth"" makes an appropriate namesake for this estate. Being distinctive and classy, Chateau Margot stands out and above most other St. John properties. This villa's classic quality and exceptional superiority are impossible to deny when noticing the warmth of carved teak and mahogany woods; the lasting beauty and strength of polished granite, coral and marble tiles; and the innovative appliances, fixtures and electronics found all throughout its structure. The artistic blending of a rich regal decor, set within coolly casual curves and angles, adapted to the middle of a secluded tropical forest, gives this estate the well-balanced ""premier grand -cru"" classification that it truly deserves." Chateau Margot can accommodate up to 14 guests as long as two of the guests are children under the age of 12 years. Additional person charges would apply. Paradise
Chateau Margot was paradise- there's really no other word for it. We traveled with 5 adults and 5 kids ranging in age from 3-12. Kathy, the villa manager, was wonderful to work with. Always answered any questions we had before and during the trip. She was super responsive and always gave suggestions when we asked. The views were out of this world, the house was clean, had everything we needed from beach toys, snorkel gear, beach chairs (no beach tent or umbrella which would have been helpful), the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed, and there were plenty of beach towels. The house has 6 beautiful bedrooms. The designs and art work were incredible. The stonework inside and outside the house was beautiful. The beds in the main house were very comfortable. The beds in the guest house definitely need updating. The guest house was a bit confusing online through the pictures. There is no inside staircase, so if you are sharing with kids, just know that you have to go outside and down the stone stairs to get to the other bedroom. The guest bedroom on the bottom floor has no curtains on one wall of windows. While it's beautiful, it made sleeping past 5:30 AM very difficult, especially for the kids. The porch/ patios were amazing! There was a brand new grill that worked great! The pool was wonderful and very very deep. It did feel chilly to us at times since it was incredibly windy at the villa all week. I'm not sure if that is the norm, but it made it difficult to eat outside. The ambiance outside at night was lovely. From the solar lights on the tables, to the lights in the pool- just beautiful. The house was only 10-15 minutes from the best beaches- Maho, Trunk, Cinnamon. Get there early (before 9:30) or you won't get a parking spot. Windmill Bar was a 10 minute drive and had the best views on the island. I didn't know they could get better than at the villa, but WOW! Midway market is also a 10 minute drive and had most of the food and drinks we needed. Coco Jim's is also right next door to this- fabulous painkillers. The cons- 20 mins to town on VERY windy roads with hairpin turns. Once you got into town, parking was very difficult to find. Taking a taxi was easy from our villa, as we got the name of a great taxi driver, but it was expensive. 100$ into town and 100$ out for our group of 10. Overall, we would all stay there again in a heartbeat.

I could've stayed here very happily for a lot longer!
We were a family of 10 (5 couples); one bedroom was locked off without any consequence to our total comfort. This is a spectacular home with spacious, comfortable rooms; a kitchen that has enough 'equipment' for a restaurant; and a pool/deck that's hard to leave. The view from the property is magnificent. The layout and landscaping are perfect. We had stayed at another home on Bordeaux Mountain on a prior visit, and despite the 15-20 minute commutes to Cruz and Coral Bay locations and beaches around the island, it's worth the 'effort'. Unless you desire beachfront or walking distance from restaurants, the extra minutes in your vehicle weren't any issue for us. After the first one or two times down/up the adventurous but well-paved driveway, it's more of a badge of honor that your house is situated on the side of this mountain! I didn't require switching to 4WD on my Jeep...but did utilize 1st through 3rd gears, though my brother in law stayed in D on his Durango. We had a marvelous, fun, memorable vacation, with family becoming closer versus annoying, and our selection of Chateau Margot must be credited!

A fabulous setting for a family gathering!
What a wonderful time our family had at Chateau Margot! Fourteen of us, plus a tot, gathered to celebrate our 50th anniversary. One of our goals was to contribute to the economy of St. John after it was pummeled by two hurricanes in the fall of 2017. We accomplished that and got so much more from our vacation. The beauty of St. John is displayed from the pool deck's spectacular view. Plenty of space for each family in the two cottages and main house. The villa is elegant yet comfortable, views from every window. The well-supplied kitchen let us share breakfasts poolside and prepare family dinners at the end of the day. The kids loved the pool by day, and the DVD library by evening, while the nearby beaches treated us all to sea turtle sightings, clear waters, and recovering coral. Frogs hidden in the lush plants surrounding the villa sang us to sleep. Property manager Kathy promptly responded to questions and suggested a reliable airport pick-up/delivery service. We have brought home memories galore of a wonderful place!

Perfect villa for our large group!
We rented this villa for a week for 14 people ranging in age from 8 to mid 40s. Although we had a couple of hiccups leading up to arriving, once we got on St. John Kathy McLaughlin met us at the dock and took us straight to this villa. Kathy was very knowledgeable about this property and had a overwhelming gift basket waiting on our group. She answered all of our questions and gave us great hints on what to do on the island. This Villa was perfect for our families and we had ample room. Everything we needed was there and in place. All we had to do was unpack........and relax. The views are beautiful from this villa and every amenity you may need is at your fingertips. We felt like we were right at home. We will be back to St. John and when we do we will do what we can to stay at Chateau Margot.

Wonderful Property, Terrific Location
Chateau Margot is a truly wonderful property in an ideal location - about 15 minutes from Cruz Bay on the west end and 10 minutes from Coral Bay on the east side. The views from the deck of the nearby the Bordeaux Restaurant are advertised as the best on the island - but since Chateau Margot is about 200 yards away, we were able to enjoy the same incredible views over coffee and breakfast on our own! (see attached photo) As other reviews have indicated - the kitchen is wonderfully equipped, the living areas are comfortable, the master bedroom and bath - particularly the shower - is spacious and accommodating. The kids loved playing in the pool, even after long days of snorkeling at the beach. We did see the occasional gecko, but did not have any significant issues with critters. The driveway is very steep, and has a hairpin corner that requires a three-point turn in a larger vehicle (like the Jeep Wrangler we rented). Initially it was a bit intimidating, but after a few runs we managed it without any difficulty. The location and the views definitely make up for any driveway drawbacks. Kathy and Leah at Island Getaways, Inc. were masterful at helping us get connected with the right property, and a terrific help while we were on the island. They greeted us at the dock in Cruz Bay when we arrived, made sure we successfully connected with the rental car, drove with us to the house, and had stocked the refrigerator with a few items to get us started. They also made sure we had all of the information we needed on the property and the surrounding area. They have assembled a notebook of important information - from restaurant menus to details on day trips, and everything in between. We just can't say enough positive things about working with Island Getaways!

Beautiful Home...just plain lovely!
Chateau Margot was everything we were expecting. The kitchen was expertly furnished. Eating areas were spacious and various. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The pool was nice, but cold. The heat pump broke the first day we were there and the managers did all they could do to get it fixed, but the part was delayed in coming. The breezes were so nice, we rarely had to use air conditioning. Great place to stay!

Spacious & Luxurious with great spaces to be together and apart
We have just finished a week at Chateau Margo. It really is as beautiful as the photos indicate. Our family ages ranged from 9 to 89, and everyone has indicated they had a great time and would love to be at such a place again. The couple of minor issues which arise with 12 people in the course of a week were resolved for us promptly and courteously. We prepared most of our breakfasts and dinners at the villa and found all of the kitchen tools to be well organized and in good order.

Gorgeous view with lots of room to entertain
We really enjoyed our stay at Chateau Margot. We were staying there with our two children, 8 and 10, and another family with an eight year old. The views off the mountain were beautiful, and being up high, the mountain breezes kept everything very comfortable. We ate many meals outside and found the kitchen well stocked with any cooking implement we needed, a great place to cook gourmet meals. The master bedroom was gorgeous, and so was the bathroom. We were lucky to stay in this part of the property. Our friends stayed in the guest cottage, and I thought it wasn't quite up to the rest of the house. It was clean and the furniture was nice although the kitchenette and bathroom were not as nice as the main house. The other wing part of the house was closed up while we were there. I had imagined that they would be staying there when we rented the house and thought it was disappointing that they were given the cottage. That said, everyone still had a wonderful time. The house was very well stocked with towels for the pool, the grounds were lovely and well kept. The main living area was spacious and comfortable, and I will admit we used the DVD player and movies a couple nights to occupy the kids while the adults drank cocktails under the stars outside. The wifi worked pretty well throughout the house, which was helpful because my husband had to work some of the time we were there. The house manager was responsive to all our questions and very helpful.

HI hrabotalesser! Thank you so much for such a detailed and complimentary review of Chateau Margot! We very much appreciate it and it is so very helpful for our potential guests. I am sorry that you didn't feel that some of the parts of the house weren't as nice as the other parts, but I will say that every year when we close the villas in September the owners do renovations and upgrades, so we are constantly improving Chateau Margot. :) It does sound like you definitely enjoyed your time in the villa, and that is the most important and I am glad that you feel like we, as a management company, were responsive. I am so sorry that we are just now responding to your review - we were not aware we had that ability. :) We look forward to having you join us again and hope to hear from you soon! Until then, follow us on Insta and FB to keep this beautiful island in your thoughts! Have a wonderful day!

Beautiful Property, but challenges with manager
We rented this property for what I thought would be a dream come true for me and a select few of my wedding guests. The view, layout, architecture, decorum, everything was even better than what I imagined. The only challenges we faced were with the pool not staying filled and there was some sort of contractor or repair person on the property at least 3 out of the 7 days we stayed there. No sweat, we didn't make a big deal out of it because overall we had a great time, until... ...we returned home in anticpation of getting our security deposit back and the owner managed to nitpick us out of 90% of our $$. =:-O We're talking minor stains from eating dinner on the table cloth (isn't that what you're supposed to do on a table cloth?), to inoperable TV/DVD system (which was buggy from day 1--we just figured we lacked the technical expertise to figure it out), to a couple chairs and tables not in the exact spot where they were originally. The only justified infraction was for smoking in a room by one of my guests (shameful, I know). But everything else was just really petty, especially considering this was my wedding and we brushed off so many inconveniences by random visits from strange men (contractors/repair guys) over the course of days when many female guests were scantily clad around the pool--inappropriate. As I bride who paid for her own wedding out of pocket (no family help), I was really hurt & disappointed. It was just a bad ending to what would have been an almost perfect wedding villa rental. We got some of the money back, but not all--it was really the principal of the matter moreso than the $$. I understand the travel industry gets hit the hardest in times of recession and often times property owners have to make up expenses any way they know how, but great customer service goes a looooooong way.
