Nostalgia of traditional smoke & steam pervades when the famous Ffestiniog Steam railway runs past the rear of the cottage. Glan yr Afon is a delightful 18th century miner's cottage which retains character and features from a bygone era, such as an impressive inglenook fireplace housing a multi fuel wood burring stove and original exposed beams in the lounge. The cottage overlooks a small mountain river, and open countryside scenery to the front with a backdrop of craggy hillside behind. Glan yr Afon exudes a warm & friendly welcome and is presented to a good standard with special attention to detail to ensure a comfortable stay is had by all. Standing amongst some dramatic scenery and enjoying views of countryside and hills encompassing the Manod mountains at the front with a craggy backdrop of the Moelwyn mountains which protect the village from much of the wind in the winter to the rear, the cottage is an ideal base to explore the area and attractions on offer. The village has a pleasant southerly aspect with relatively mild weather considering how high it is located in Snowdonia. There are some fantastic walks, lakes and waterfalls that can be enjoyed from the cottage and the area is great for fishing and golfing. The Lakeside café is only a two minute walk from the cottage and the village pub is about a twenty minute walk away. The slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog is just one and a half miles away and offers an array of eating establishments, pubs, shops, chemist, petrol station/garage and leisure centre/swimming pool. Blaenau Ffestiniog is also the home to the World Famous Ffestiniog Narrow Gauge Steam railway which links to the harbour town of Porthmadog, and runs through the village of Tanygrisiau and the station in the village is only a 2 or 3 minute walk from the cottage. Glan yr Afon really is the ideal base for exploring the many attractions Snowdonia has to offer. The Italianate village of Portmeirion is only eight miles away, Llechwedd Slate Caverns is one and a half miles and many CADW heritage sites and beaches are only a short twenty to thirty minute drive away. Coed y Brenin, one of the best mountain bike centres in Britain is also only twelve miles away and of course, there is Snowdon itself, which is about a thirty minute drive. The Stiniog downhill tracks & trails are only a short drive away, located at Llechwedd Slate Caverns. Features & Facilities include: • The lounge is warm & welcoming with lots of character. Exposed beams are throughout the lounge and the exposed stone inglenook houses a multi fuel stove which is set on a slate hearth. • Separate fitted kitchen is well equipped with electric cooker/grill, gas hob, extractor hood, microwave, fridge with icebox and washer/ dryer. • Downstairs bathroom with bath, shower attachment over, low level WC and basin. Well appointed and modern in design. • LPG central heating throughout • Welcome gift on arrival • Electricity, LPG & starter pack of fuel for Multi fuel stove included • 2 well behaved dogs welcome (please bring own dog beds and towels) • Upstairs are 2 bedrooms, the double bedroom is light & airy with delightful views across the river and fields towards mountainous scenery and the single bedroom has an additional pull out guest bed, so can accommodate 2 people. • Bed Linen, towels and tea towels are all provided, together with the following 'consumables': Washing up liquid, washing up brush, cloth & sponge, washing powder/liquid, dishcloths, and tea towels. Liquid soaps by washbasins, toilet roll and bin bags. We also provide a small supply of Tea, Coffee & Sugar and a selection of Herbal & Fruit Teas & Hot Chocolates. There is also a condiment set of Salt, Pepper & Vinegar, and a small selection of assorted herbs & spices. • Off road parking for 1 car opposite cottage, additional parking on first come first served basis in allocated parking bay opposite cottage. • Lakeside Café only a 2 minute walk & pub is approximately a 20 minute walk. The nearby town of Blaenau Ffestiniog offers an array of shops, eating establishments & pubs. • Strictly No Smoking • LCD TV/DVD/CD with FreeSat, iPod dock & a good selection of DVD's, books, games, puzzles and toys for the children. • There is an enclosed and gated front garden, a great spot to enjoy evening drinks after a day spent enjoying the wonderful scenery and numerous outdoor pursuits the area has to offer. Note: The arrival time at this property is 5pm, and guests are welcome to stay until 12 noon on departure day. More

About the neighbourhood
The cottage stands amongst some dramatic scenery and enjoys views of countryside and hillside encompassing the Manod mountains at the front with a craggy backdrop of the Moelwyn mountains which protect the village from much of the wind from northerly gales in the winter and give the village a pleasant southerly aspect with relatively mild weather considering how high it is located in Snowdonia. The cottage is situated in a terrace of about 12 cottages and is located in a quiet position away from the main road and passing traffic, there are parking bays opposite which are for the use of the terrace, so parking should not be a problem, but is on a first come, first served basis. Situated in the village of Tanygrisiau, meaning Under the Steps, a close neighbour of the larger town, better kno...
