Set in beautiful terraced gardens featuring an infinity pool, this secluded, peaceful house is bathed in sun all day long. Set between the Apuan and Apennine mountains it is ideal for cycling and walking and has easy access to the beautiful coastline of the Cinque Terre and Gulf of Poets, Pisa, Lucca, Genova, Parma and Florence. This stunning 4 bedroom house from 1760 is set on the edge of a historic village. Keeping original features such as the arches, old floors and grand front door, the house has been modernised to a high standard. The large, beautiful balcony with a dining area shaded by a trumpet vine is perfect for outdoor dining, with tables and chairs set to enjoy the spectacular view over the rolling Apennine foothills and the sunsets. The garden has a fabulous infinity swimming pool flanked by vines, olive trees and bamboo and another terraced eating area. Turlago is a peaceful, pretty, stone village on the slopes of Monte Chiaro, known for its friendliness and its annual festival of San Felice in August. The house itself is in a totally tranquil setting at the edge of the village and is reached through cobbled archways. Just above the village are dramatic view of the Apuan alps. Ideal for day trippers and those who want to relax, and great for walkers and cyclists as there is convenient storage space for equipment in the covered cartway. As well as the numerous mountain trails in the national parks, the area is full of wonderful ancient walking trails (many of which have been recently restored). In steep places you walk along old cobbles laid down to ease the passage of laden mules in pre-road eras and the ancient pilgrimage route, the Volta Santo Way, passes the front of the house. This beautiful well marked trail, with stunning views of the Apuan mountains, takes you to the village of Reusa where there is an excellent and inexpensive agriturismo restaurant with a swimming pool. The house is only 1 and a 1/4 hours drive from Pisa airport which connects with cities worldwide. A car is essential and is the best way to explore Tuscany. This region (Lunigiana) offers a truly unspoilt and quiet corner of Tuscany – an ideal place to relax and get away from the more widely travelled and crowded holiday destinations. It is situated in the most northern tip of Tuscany, defined by the Apennine mountain range to the East, the world famous Carrara marble Apuan mountains to the South and the Ligurian Riviera to the West. A unique location whether you wish to bathe in the natural thermal baths, go skiing, walk in the countryside, wander around the nearby medieval cities and towns, or visit the Gulf of Poets and Cinque Terre on the coast which still retains its authenticity and charm with lively and colourful waterfronts, picturesque fishing villages and hidden coves with turquoise waters. The house is a 10 minute drive to Fivizzano, a lovely small town with Medici era walls and a handsome central square set around a Medici fountain which has shops, restaurants, hospital, bars etc., or a 45 minute walk along a medieval trackway. If you are bringing young children please note that they will need to be supervised. Although there are safety wires between the balustrades on the balcony some vigilance is needed. The garden terraces also have some steep drops and there is a pool. You can padlock the door and gate to the garden and pool to ensure safety if you wish. More

Without doubt the most beautiful home I have ever stayed in. The owner, Francesca, happened to be in the area during my stay and she was lovely. An absolutely brilliant stay - could not have been better.
