Holiday Rental House
The Bothy is situated in the magnificent grounds of Tharsis House in the idyllic riverside village of Calstock in East Cornwall. The cosy gardener's cottage faces onto a secluded courtyard at the back of the main house with a dedicated private garden at the rear. It is only a few minutes walk to the two village pubs, local shop, cafe, massage therapist, art gallery, riverside recreational area and train station. It is perfectly situated for Cornish summers spent exploring the Tamar Valley, Dartmoor and surrounding areas. There is a wood-burning stove and underfloor heating to keep it snug during the cooler months. The quaint Calstock train station is located behind the walled garden at the rear of the property, making it ideal for easy public transport access to and from Plymouth. About the neighbourhood
The Tamar Valley cuts it way along the border between Cornwall and Devon, from Plymouth on the south coast to Bude on the north coast. The ancient stannery and market town of Tavistock with its pannier market (active since 1148) is a short drive from Calstock, with Plymouth a thirty minute trip away by train or car. The quaint Calstock train station is located by our back gate and trains run to and from Plymouth every two hours. The thirty minute trip each way is very scenic and relaxing. Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor are close by, with numerous walking trails and dramatic scenery to be enjoyed. Historic Cotehele House, the first National Trust property in the UK, is a thirty minute walk along the river bank, with beautiful views back along the river to the village.
Getting around
There is a local train to Plymouth and buses to Callington, Tavistock and Plymouth. All depart from Calstock. Darren's Taxi's in Gunnislake and very reasonable too.
