Interaction with guests
One or both of us will be passing by at least once each day - certainly each morning: you may well catch sight of us feeding the sheep, checking lambs, collecting eggs, harvesting soft fruit, repairing fences ... You're welcome to take an interest, help out, or just call out hello, or as for tips or advice or ask for help. But that's your choice: we aim to respect your privacy, yet be available when needed. In any event we live just five minutes away - and even closer by email or phone call.

Carrick is an excellently appointed house with stunning views of Eriskay and South Uist. We sat in bed watching the seabirds dive for breakfast and the Hebridean sheep maintain the grass like a carpet whilst the scenery changed constantly in front of us. The house...More

About the neighbourhood
Carrick is set in a quiet 'township' of unspoiled crofts and houses. The house is set on the owner's traditional Hebridean croft, with small flocks of poultry and Hebridean sheep. The croft runs from the foot of the island's main hill down to the shore. It's a part of the island where traditional small-scale subsistence agriculture combines with abundant wildlife and wonderful landscapes and sea-scapes. It's a great starting point for walking and cycling, foraging or beach-combing, wildlife-watching (which you can do from the comfort of the house!), kayaking, photography.
Getting around
A car is highly recommended (hire cars are available - ask for advice). A bicycle is also recommended for getting about in Eriskay and across the causeway to the near end of South Uist. Carrick is about 5-10 mins walk from a main bus route, with services suitable for arriving and leaving - but not for seeing the sights. We recommend walking gear to get the most out of your holiday, especially for exploring the hills and shores and discovering the amazing wildlife.
