This is the perfect retreat for those wishing to explore the many chateaux, caves and other pre-historic sites, sample the famed local gastronomy or simply chill out in the private enclosed garden, with its peaceful views of unspoilt countryside stretching to a distant horizon. The barn is sympathetically converted to retain many original features while offering modern comforts. lt is situated within the private courtyard of the owners' second home that has been in the family for generations. The large open-plan sitting/dining room contains an ancient bread oven, used by the former owner for the weekly bake during WW2. There is a well-equipped kitchen corner and stairs leading to the bedroom, bathroom and separate lavatory in the eves. Although the bedroom has ample headroom, the wooden ceiling is lower above the last 3 stairs ascending, and the first three descending. There is a banister. Fanlac is a historic settlement with twelfth century fortified church, central well and many ancient dwellings, lovingly cared for by the current inhabitants, most of whom are from the village or nearby. It is known as the place where the mythical folklore hero Jacquou le Croquant grew up, and was used as the location for the 1960's French TV series of that name. The traditional family-run restaurant close to the church also bears the name of Fanlac's most illustrious fictional inhabitant. For those feeling energetic, the surrounding countryside is excellent walking terrain, with a public footpath, the GR 36, passing right by the lower gate of the property. lt is a lovely region for cyclists, if somewhat challenging in the more hilly areas. Canoes and kayacs can be hired in Montignac and a gentle paddle down the Vezere river can be a memorable way to spend a few hours, for those so inclined. There is a man-made lake (etang) just outside the hamlet of Tamnies, about a 20- minute drive away through lush countryside, with sandy beaches, pedalos and snack bar There are street markets in Montignac on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, a wide range of top quality food outlets, restaurants and cafés, two supermarkets, a cinema and music festival during the summer. Although the discrete owners are not permanently resident in Fanlac, very occasionally they may stay in the house adjacent to the barn within the property. However guests are assured of exclusive use of the garden and courtyard for their vehicle and their privacy will be respected. Public open air pool is 8.000m.
