Holiday Rental House
Have you ever wondered what happened after the cameras stopped filming for a reality TV show? This is one of them. We were featured in the Channel 4 programme 'A New Life in the Sun' broadcast in January 2016. We bought Cachette Anglaise early in 2015 and moved in just before the summer. Work started on the gite in June, with the intention of providing a self-contained holiday home that we would want to stay in. Primarily, it needed to be spacious with modern fixtures and fittings, comfortable bedrooms, a well-appointed kitchen, plenty of outside space, and set in beautiful countryside. We envisioned somewhere that was home from home, without the stresses of day to day life, but with the opportunity to relax and unwind. We like to spend time outside exploring towns and villages, buying and cooking local food and sitting outside with a BBQ and a bottle of local wine, or eating out at family run restaurants. And we think we’ve done it! We named the gite after Georgette, the grandmother of 4 local French sisters who sold us much of her lovely furniture – although her potty has been removed from the commode! Gite Georgette sleeps up to 5, with a maximum of 4 adults. One bedroom has a double bed, with a single bed tucked under the eaves - suitable for a child as the ceiling starts low and slopes away. The other bedroom has 2 single beds. The twin bedded room has an ensuite shower room. On the ground floor there is a separate, larger shower room, a large dining/ living room and a well-equipped kitchen. Outside there is a patio with dining area, BBQ and parasol. The enormous garden is over 4 acres, with views over the surrounding fields, woodlands and valleys. Changeover day in mid summer is on Saturday, but if you'd like to avoid travelling on a Saturday or would like to extend your stay, you could book either or both B&B rooms in the farmhouse. Open from May to September is an open air pool with a timber terrace and a private enclosed garden so that you can bring your dog on holiday too.More

Interaction with guests
As I live next door, there is usually someone on site in case you need any help or advice. There is a box in the gite with information about the gite itself, and lots of leaflets about interesting places to visit. If you find anywhere new or different, please pick up a flyer or business card to share with later guests. If your party is more than 5 people, or you would like to avid travelling on a Saturday in high season, there are B&B rooms available in the main farmhouse. My partner and I enjoyed a relaxing stay at this lovely gite near Bordeaux. The gite is attached to the British owner's B&B business, a beautiful farmhouse in a tranquil countryside setting. The gite itself was extremely spacious with ample room for six people and...More

Dear Margaret and Coco, Thank you for your lovely review. We enjoyed having you both to stay - although I still think my moggies taught your cat a few bad tricks. The weather was kind to us, and we now have some rather healthy tomato...More

About the neighbourhood
The surrounding countryside is mostly agricultural, with rolling hills, woodlands and fields of sunflowers. The area is famous for tomatoes, plums and foie gras: most good things to eat can be found here, and you’ll often hear the phrase, ‘on mange bien en Lot et Garonne’. Guerin is the nearest village, under 2 kms away, with a shop and bar. Claire in the shop speaks excellent English and will take orders for breakfast croissants and sells a wide range of produce. The bar is open for the same hours as the shop – or until the last customer leaves. In the nearby area there are navigational rivers and canals, cycling and wine routes, farms which sell their own produce and more waiting to be discovered. You can hire boats or canoes, go horse riding or just walk and take in the scenery. Mo...
Getting around
The nearest railway station is Marmande [17km] and here you can get trains to Bordeaux or Toulouse.
