New Abbey is a historic village, located within a conservation area, within a national and regional scenic area. The Village won, best small village in Scotland 2012. It is truly a fantastic place to stay.The cottage it's self is located in the heart of the village in the picturesque cobbled square. The cottage is a grade c listed building and was totally restored in 2013/14. The house has been finished to a high standard, with a new kitchen, wet room, central heating, open fire and tasteful decoration throughout. The cottage has a main hall that leads to a double bedroom, single bedroom, wet room, kitchen/dinner and living room combined. Lovely place everything you needed and more! ( Beautiful Home made cake) clean, comfortable and well equipped. Locals friendly and easy to get to places from cottage. Would definitely use again and recommend it to anyone.

This the second time I have stayed at Abbey Green. Everything was equally as good as.the first time. The cottage is excellent, very comfortable and great to have tea, coffee, milk etc and of course the wonderful cream cake. Will definitely stay again.

About the neighbourhood
Heading out west from dumfries, just 8 miles along the Solway Coast Heritage Trail lies the pretty conservation village of New Abbey. The imposing Sweetheart Abbey is one of the highlight attractions in the region. The village is also home to a saw mill, two hotels, village shop and a coffee shop which offers excellent scones and refreshments.

Also situated in the pretty village of New Abbey and under the care of Historic Scotland is a three-storey whitewashed mill building, built towards the end of the 18th century by the Stewarts of nearby Shambellie House. However, it is thought that it reaches back much later than that, perhaps to as early as the late 13th century, when the Cistercian monks established their monastery of Dulce Cor ('Sweet Heart' ) at the far end of the village...
