Holiday Rental House
The village of Bouriege sits in the foothills of the Pyrenees, surrounded by vineyards and rolling countryside. It's a friendly village with a small river running through - and a cafe/restaurant, post office, church and quiet main square. The detached house (once the village cafe, hence the name!) is spacious and bright and has been lovingly restored, mixing modern with traditional French charm. The house has original wooden floors throughout. On the ground floor the large lounge has a big wood burning stove and two comfortable sofas. The fully equipped, eat-in kitchen leads to a private courtyard, with dining area, sun loungers and a BBQ. A separate dining room seats 8. There is also a modern bathroom on the ground floor with a large walk-in shower. There is also a modern bathroom on the ground floor with a large walk-in shower. On the first floor, you'll find three large bright, airy bedrooms. The master bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and a king-sized bed. Bedroom 2 – the 'white' room, also has a king sized bed and French windows that look down on the tiny post-office and a typical meandering French laneway. Bedroom 3 at the front of the house, is large with two single beds, and a wardrobe already stocked with toys for young children. The mattresses are definitely not rustic – they are new and very comfortable to ensure a good nights sleep, with crisp white bed linen . The newly modernised bathroom and separate toilet, are both conveniently located next to the bedrooms. Head up a wooden staircase to the third floor, and you come to a large open landing. Turn left and there's a double bed should you need it. Turn right and walk into a bright reading/relaxing room with comfy chairs. French windows lead off this room to the roof terrace - with wonderful views over the village and surrounding hills, perfect for sunset drinks and dining.. There's parking right outside and just across from the house is a lovely cafe, which provides lunches and warm hospitality. Patricia, the French owner, speaks good English and is happy for people to sit all afternoon and use her Wifi, in return for buying a coffee! The house provides the perfect base from which to explore this beautiful and historic part of France. The world-renowned mediaeval walled 'Cite' of Carcassonne, is close by, as is the world heritage rated 'Canal du Midi', ancient Cathar castles, vinyards and plenty of activities: walking, cycling, swimming, white water rafting, kayaking, paragliding. Too much to mention here, please read on! More

About the neighbourhood
The vines are the first thing you'll notice on the winding drive to the house. A few minutes stroll from the house and you're in the hills for country walks, bike rides and views of the mountains. There's lots to do locally, all within a 10-20 minute drive of the house. The village of Puivert - with its Cathar castle has a lovely (child safe) swimming lake. The historic village of Alet les Bains has a high wire assault course and you can stock up on water from the natural fresh spring - or swim in it, in the nearby pool! At a more sedate pace explore the mysterious Rennes Le Chateau village, home of the 'Da Vinchi Code' mystery or sink into a hot spa at Rennes Le Bains. The main town of Limoux, with its typical French square, market days and more practically, supermarkets and shops, is also only ten minutes away.
How to get there
Carcassonne Airport is only 35 minutes drive from the house, where you can also hire a car. Perpignan Airport is a little further away at 90 mins, but the spectacular route past soaring landscapes, cathar castles and through country villages makes up for it. Toulouse airport is also about 90 mins away. Alternatively you could drive to us - there's many ferry options from the UK or of course the Channel Tunnel. It's a lovely drive down and we can recommend a lovely, very reasonably priced place to stay, to break the journey...
