The lovely, fully equipped cottage is within walking distance of the Stanford "centre" - lovely to browse antique shops, etc. that Stanford is famous for. We enjoyed walking all over town, seeing the historic buildings, but also the Stanford wandelpad along the river. Such a lovely town to forget about everything of "normal hectic life". Close to drive to the sea, where we could do whale watching and visit surrounding wine farms.

This is a picturesque, cozy house with beautiful garden! Very central to everything, peaceful and quiet (we heard the churchbell on a windy night!) Bea and Basil are wonderful hosts - we had no chance on missing out on anything - we've enjoyed their recommendations (things to do, restaurants), and also spent time just enjoying the garden and surrounds. We did not want to leave...

B's cottage is a homey, cozy one-bedroom retreat in a lovely garden in the charming village of Stanford, just east of the much busier Hermanus on South Africa's south coast. It was a welcoming place to come 'home' to after the writing workshop I attended one weekend, and an easy stroll from both the workshop and various shops and restaurants along the 'main drag', Queen Victoria Street (so quiet you can stand in the middle of the road for a few minutes until a car comes!). Bea was really helpful answering questions before my arrival about sights to see en route -- wine and cheese farms mainly -- but was scarce, though available, over the weekend -- as one would want. Stanford itself is a charming place -- friendly people, yummy food in town and environs, and the lovely Klein River about 10 mins away from the cottage; I really enjoyed walking along it. The wi-fi works brilliantly; there's a tv if you must; an indoor fireplace; and a braai. There's no oven -- stovetop and microwave only -- but who wants to cook when you can get Indian takeaway or savour La Trattoria's scrumptious risotto a few blocks away?! Thank you Bea -- I hope to return!

B"s cottage is in the heart of Stanford, a short stroll to all of the local restaurants. The cottage is set within beautiful gardens with several outside seating areas with a braai. The cottage itself is perfect for a couple, with open fireplace which would be great in the chillier months. Good shower & comfy bed & there's a decent tv & wifi too. Bea was waiting for us at the cottage on our arrival & efficiently dealt with the handover of keys & ensured we knew of the local restaurants etc. Bea had also previously been very understanding on my error in making this booking & amended the dates with no fuss which we were very appreciative of. We'll certainly be back, thanks Bea

About the neighbourhood
Stanford is a declared heritage village approximately 25km from Hermanus. Talk a guided tour to get to know how history and architecture embraced one another over the years; or get a Historical Stanford on Foot pamphlet and wander at leisure through the village. The village is bordered on the northern side by the scenic Klein River, and a walking trail meanders all along the river and through the green belts in the village. Best place to view them is on or along the river, or from the bird hide on the dam in the village River trips: The early morning and sunset river trips are magical.
