Plover Cottage is over 200 years old and was completely refurbished in 2016. We were awarded a Gold Award by Quality in Tourism in 2016. We were also voted Most Dog Friendly Self Catering Cottage in the New Forest in 2018.

Cosy, warm and great location. We love Milford on Sea and was recommended of this cottage by my sister who has stayed there previous. We visited Milford for the Christmas Tree light switch on, the weather was frosty and this cottage was cosy to return to, Christmas decorations and fairy lights made the cottage even cosier. Well presented, comfortable beds, and the kitchen had everything needed. Even had parking. Good communication with the hosts. Many thanks for having us.

Charming small cottage located in a great position.. spotlessly clean. The parking space is a bonus although we didn’t use the car much as lots to do in walking distance. We will be visiting again!

Wonderful cottage.
My husband and I stayed for a week and were very pleasantly surprised. The accommodation was spotless and had everything we required, and all the local amenities were literally on our doorstep.
Everything from pubs, to shops, to restaurants all a stones throw away. Beach a 10 minute walk. We toom the 2 mile walk to Hurst Castle which was really interesting and a good afternoon out. Would definitely recommend and be more than happy to stay again! Thanks.

Great cottage to explore the local area
Really nice cottage in the centre of the village. We really liked the character and particularly the outdoor space. It's on the road but there's little noise and it was great being so close to the shops, the village green and the bus stop. I would really recommend using the buses whether as a one way journey for a walk or to visit somewhere (we got to Christchurch and the Isle of Wight). There is a parking space which is great but we didn't use the car. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. Highly recommended.

Not what I expected . . .
A friend and I stayed at Plover Cottage for 4 nights in June 2023. Whilst I agree with previous reviews regarding the cleanliness of the cottage which couldn't be faulted, nothing in the cottage details prepared me for how small the living quarters are, or for the fact it is on a main road and the edge of a small housing estate.
Despite there being 2 double beds upstairs, the sitting room would struggle to accommodate 4 people and I found it claustrophobic with just two of us, fortunately, we had good weather during our stay so didn't need to be indoors that much.
The 'dining room' with its dining table with useful local tourist info leaflets etc, is little more than a space to cross from the door to the sitting room. An erratic arrangement of small steps proved to be a trip hazard. The stairs are very narrow so again, for someone with limited mobility could be a problem getting bags etc upstairs. Also, why do owners put white/light coloured carpets in holiday accommodation, whilst they do look nice they can be a source of stress.
I have to disagree with other reviewers regarding the comfort of the beds, the one I used had a hump in the middle of the mattress so I felt as if I would roll out of bed during the night, apart from that, I did not find the mattress comfortable. An alternative to the winter duvet would have been appreciated too as it was hot weather and certainly didn't need heavy bedding.
The kitchen is probably the most spacious room in the property and is well equipped, despite the lack of egg cups, and more than adequate for the stay. The dishwasher was definitely appreciated.
I thought the half-roll of toilet paper in the bathroom was a little mean, I paid in excess of £550 for 4 nights so a full loo roll is not an excessive expectation.
The 'garden' was a welcome outdoor space though describing it as such is perhaps an exaggeration; it's a very small outdoor space with no real privacy, covered in gravel/pebbles which wasn't comfortable and stuck to the bottom of my sandals so I kept walking it into the cottage. As I always remove footwear at the door it never spread into the main area where it could have damaged the wooden floors but was a constant irritant. It wasn't great for my dog either being uncomfortable to walk over and sit on, fortunately, her bed was suitable to take outside so she could be comfy too.
I was very conscious of the proximity of neighbours and felt we had to be careful of volume when sitting outdoors talking late at night.

Cosy, clean cottage. Perfect location
Lovely cosy cottage full of character. Perfect location. Very clean and everything you need for a self catering stay. Parking on site was a bonus and we would definitely have used the outside space had the weather been a bit warmer. Would stay again.

Another wonderful stay!
It was great to be back at Plover Cottage again and visting Milford on Sea after a 3yr break. We would usually visit twice a year until Covid happened.
Plover Cottage is so lovely and never fails to disappoint us. Always very sad to leave. Dog friendly too which is an absolute bonus for us.
Can't wait to book in again for next year!

Milford has a real village feel and is quiet out of season with more activity in the summer months when it is a popular tourist destination for people visiting the beach or going sailing.
Getting around
There are buses from Milford to Lymington and Bournemouth and during the summer the tourist buses run taking in various sights in the forest.
