We reserved La Paila for 8 mights at the end of July, 2015 and had the most relaxing and enjoyable vacation we have ever enjoyed. The staff is attentive to your every wish, including privacy. Luz keeps the house spotless and her husband, Gilbert, keeps the grounds and pool and all maintenance needs better than you would have at home. The kitchen is fully equipped and we enjoyed the luxury of cooking for ourselves and experimenting with making "Tico" traditional dishes. Luz is available to cook any meals you like if you don't wish to play in the kitchen, and we were delighted with the tasty local fare she and Gilbert prepared for us. The owners were also a delight to deal with and accommodated every wish we had. If you love beautiful surroundings and accommodating hosts and staff, La Paila is a must for your vacation plans near the most beautiful beach in Costa Rica. Did I mention the mango trees in the yard? Fresh mangoes daily. We even made mango ice cream. I promised Luz I would send heer the recipe.

We loved every second of our stay at La Paila. We were there with our two boys, ages 6 & 9 and our parents who are in their 70's. The open air layout of the house was so awesome - the temps were in the 90's all week, but it was never hot - breezes everywhere. The drive up to the house reminds you that you're heading to a spot away from it all. We loved being away from town and the drive down to the beach at Carrillo was easy when our boys wanted to spend time on the beach. The views of the ocean are incredible, we could hear monkeys throughout the week, and the house and pool made our stay different than being at a hotel. During our week, we took an ecological hike, a dolphin-watching tour, ziplined, and the boys took surf lessons - all of that was within a 10 minute drive. We didn't eat too many meals at the house because we wanted to try different restaurants in Samara and Carrillo, but we had breakfast there each day and two dinners. The caretakers, Luz and Gilbert, were attentive and friendly. We loved La Paila - a home off the beaten path of a town that's off the beaten path nowadays in CR.

La Paila is a beautiful house on a hill above Samara and Carillo beach with incredible views of the beach, ocean and mountains. The house has air conditioned bedrooms and and a huge outdoor living room with games and couches to relax while looking over Samara beach. The house is staffed by gilbert and luz, who cook whichever meals you want and take care of the grounds. Oh, and Perla the aging yet adorable lab. Playa carillo is 5 minutes at the bottom of the road to La Paila and it a beautiful horseshoe beach that's laid back, uncrowded and, unlike Samara, has no commercial establishments. Samara is only 15 mins away and has restaurants on the beach and off, as well as an organic market, butcher, fruit stand etc.
