Experience the French country lifestyle at its best and rent 'La Menagerie' --a late-18th century stone cottage and former wine-maker house-- in the heart of the Grand Chateau golden triangle (Chambord, Chenonceau and Cheverny) in Central Loire Valley. This is the perfect vacation rental for family reunions, all generations, or a romantic getaway to a French region full of history and culinary tradition, that has been known as the 'garden of France' for centuries. If you have not already read the reviews from previous guests, please do so. They speak volumes about the home, location, hospitality and they say it more eloquently than I could ever describe here. Food and wine enthusiasts will love the many great restaurants and wineries that can be found in the area, while Kids will discover the House of Magic in Blois, the Tintin museum in Cheverny or the World class Beauval Zoo with its giant pandas, among many activities specifically designed for the younger crowd. Playing golf, riding horses in Royal forests, flying over the region in a hot air balloon ('Montgolfières') or hunting at Fall in Sologne or simply cycling in chateau country along 300 kilometers of secure and well-marked bicycle paths, are among so many activities that this area can offer. Or just take a good book in the house's library, or watch a DVD and relax! Indeed, the cottage enjoys a very tranquil location, in the midst of woods, fields and vineyards (Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny A.O.C). Yet, it is only 11 Km from the Royal city of BLOIS, 15 km from the charming small town of AMBOISE and two minutes away from Chitenay, a typical French village that features all basic facilities, including a bakery. From PARIS, it is only a two hours and a half drive. A full renovation of the house completed in 2005, preserved the character of the cottage while making it as comfortable as any contemporary home. The house gets lots of sunlight, with the main facade facing south. The four skylights on the Northern face give a great view of night skies full of stars. Windows on the west side look towards the pool and nearest hamlet, allowing to enjoy gorgeous sunsets; other windows have views on the surrounding woods and fields. The main house's surface is approximately 2045 square feet (or 190 m2), laid out on two floors. With its three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, it can accommodate up to six adults in comfort, plus two youngsters in the family room's sofa bed, if necessary. In addition, there is a self-standing/side and optional cottage with veranda that can accommodate two more guests in a charming layout. This is optional and upon request; it is not included in the basic rental rate.If you rent the main cottage, no other guests are admitted in the property and privacy of your party is guaranteed. The main house is typical of the traditional 'longère' style, with a long facade and an upper floor with dormer windows. It features wooden ceiling beams, hardwood floors and a fireplace. It is furnished with country style and a few French antiques. It is decorated with classic paintings and tapestries and a touch of international contemporary design. The dining table can seat up to eight. The kitchen is equipped with gourmet cooking utensils and equipment. It is open to the living and dining room. Two of the three bedrooms are on the ground floor. One of them, the master bedroom with a queen size bed) has direct access to the wooden deck that is surrounding the pool. The other bedroom on that floor has twins size beds. Also on this floor there is a laundry room with a SAUNA, a full bathroom with toilet and a powder room with a toilet and basin. The third bedroom is upstairs and has a double bed (queen size) under the roof. It is lightened with two dormer windows and is en suite with a bathroom that has a bathtub, and a powder room with a toilet and basin. The bedroom also opens into a library. On this same first floor, there is a family room with a flat-screen TV and sound system with two sofa beds that can accommodate two additional guests. Pool can be heated upon request and against an extra 10 Euro fee per day. Welcome to 'La Ménagerie', a five stars/four seasons vacation rental in the heart of the Grand Chateaux area in Central Loire Valley, France!

Exceptionnel
Prestation exceptionnelle. Accueil exceptionnel de Brigitte et Jean François ! Un seul petit bémol : manque de meuble pour rangement vêtements.

A house as pretty as it is comfortable, ideally located: 30mn far from Chambord, Blois, Chenonceau, Chaumont etc.

Wonderful home for a holiday in great location
This is an amazing house in a quiet rural location but close to the best attractions of the Loire. The house is furnished and equipped as a residential home with the added benefits of a family friendly pool and lots of additional games equipment and bicycles. We stayed for two weeks in a party of seven including 3 teenage grandchildren. Jean Louis and Chantal from the local farm were there to greet us and Bernadette exchanged veggie scraps for eggs for her chickens. A little French went a long way. The house was surrounded by wild life, with visiting deer. This is a real find. The local villages have morning bread and patisserie, with good supermarkets within 10 miles.

Idyllic..
We had a two week stay in this is a beautiful cottage, in the East Loire countryside. The cottage is very charming, well furnished and comfortable, with lots of character. Everything a family needs. There are plenty of books and dvds to keep you amused on bad weather days, although in August we had none of these. We were five and there was plenty of space for all of us; an open plan living/dining/kitchen downstairs, and a family room, plus four bedrooms and two bathrooms, so no tripping over each other, even with three teenagers and a lively little dog. The pool and decking area were an absolute bonus, in the hot weather. This is a great area, close to both Cheverny and Chambord chateau (20/25 minutes). Both well worth a visit (no dogs allowed in Cheverny grounds). Closer to home there is a lovely medieval chateau at Fougeres sur Bievre, a five minute drive away, which is well worth a visit.. Fougeres is a lovely little village, with a great Boulangerie, tiny cafe, and a little pizzeria, for take out or sit in (need to book). Plenty of local vineyards for tasting Touraine, Cheverny and the Cour Cheverny wines. Patrick supplies a weatth of information on local restaurants, vineyards, and places of interest, so you will be well supplied with ideas. I would recommend Max Vauche - for chocolate lovers, Tours is a lovely City to visit for its beautiful old centre, and modern shopping. My teenagers enjoyed kayaking in the Loire and cycling locally. We loved simply relaxing by the pool. Some great restaurants in the area, our favourite Les Closeaux in the countryside near Amboise. Delightful. We highly recommend this lovely cottage, and this great area of France. This area, bordering the Sologne region, is lusher than west / central Loire, so plenty of forested areas and ponds/small lakes. There are biting insects around, so if like me, you react badly to biters, be sure to use a spray if walking out in the evenings, and citronella candles are a good idea if eating outside. Plenty available in local supermarkets - the best being the SuperU at Contres, or the Auchan at Vineuil. I would say the cottage is suitable for someone with disabilities as there are bedrooms and a shower room on the ground floor level. However the family/tv room is upstairs.

A Magical Stay with Three Daughters and a Momma
From the moment we drove into this awesome rental we all felt like we had landed somewhere magical. A stunning property that looked lovely in photos on various websites, but I can tell you it was beyond our expectations! Stunning!! We were greeted by Bernadette, Chantal, and Jean-Louis who were so gracious. They were there to explain all the details that would be helpful to us during our stay. This rental was so comfy! We enjoyed a catered meal by Chantal which was so delicious and perfect as this was our moms 89th bday. The weather was a little dubious the week we were there, but that didn't stop us from getting out and about....and thanks to Patrick, the owner the document he sent to us was so valuable. It was full of places to visit, things to do in the area, and vineyards to find. Awesome. You will love the location. Being right near the Loire River, you have the opportunity to visit many Chateau's and lovely towns in the area. Having a pool and sauna was an extra bonus and even though it was a little cool to swim, we managed to sit and enjoy our Rose after visiting the area. We rented a car, which was great and very easy to maneuver through all the small towns around us. I can't think of any reason for not making La Menagerie part of your France vacation plans. Loved it!

Wonderful countryside cottage
We stayed at this wonderful country cottage for a week in August. The house is located in a very remote place, away from it all, but within a 10 min drive to a supermarket and other amenities. The house is cosy and comfortable and is well maintained. It is surrounded by a loverly garden and ample space incl. woods for kids to run around. The small outdoor swimming pool was our kids favourite place. The Loire Valley has a lot to offer, incl. castles, beautiful countryside and great wines/food. We would go back any time. The host Patrick has put together a comprehensive wellcome pack with lots of helpful recommendations. We hightly recommend this property.

Wow, what a place....
We stayed at this wonderful property for one week in August 2015. There was six of us in total, 3 adults and 3 children, and we had a wonderful week. The property is in perfect surroundings and is very impressive inside. The place is spotlessly clean, and provides 4 bedrooms and a pool. Before we arrived, Patrick the owner, provided us with plenty of information and was very easy and pleasant to communicate with. Whilst at the property itself, Phillipe and Bernadette were always on hand to help should we have needed them. If you are looking at staying in this area, then I would highly recommend this property..

Acogedora y de la medida perfecta. Como si estuviésemos de vacaciones en nuestra propia casa.
Gracias Patrick, Phillipe y Bernardette.

About the neighbourhood
The property is in the heart of the most famous French Renaissance chateaux area (Chambord, Cheverny, Chenonceau). It enjoys a very tranquil location in the countryside, although Chitenay --a lovely village, South of the Loire river-- is at biking distance (5 minutes or so). It is only 10 km from the Chateau de Cheverny and 15 km from the city of Blois. The area is abutting the Sologne province, the best hunting grounds in France. This area has produced wines since at least the 6th century. That is why it is sometimes referred to as Sologne Viticole (the wine producing part of Sologne region). This is a perfect getaway for a break from bustling cities to the 'garden of France', as the kings and queens used to call that region: after all, it is a 2 hours drive from Paris and 40 min. from Tours Airport (47 miles).
Getting around
“La Ménagerie” sits in an exceptionally quiet and relaxing environment, amidst fields, vineyards and woods; immensely enjoyable for nature lovers! Walk-out from the house and follow the 300 Km of secure and well signaled bike paths and hiking trails throughout the chateaux country. “La Ménagerie” enjoys a secluded location, but it is not in the middle of nowhere: it belongs to the jurisdiction of Chitenay, a charming village with a boulangerie/grocery and a gourmet Auberge-Restaurant. Farmers markets, restaurants and supermarkets are countless in the neighboring localities such as Bracieux or Cour-Cheverny, Contres or Amboise; and even cities such as the Royal city of Blois, being only 15 min. away by car.
