Stunning, stunning, stunning
Myself and family stayed in Park Cottage for 2 weeks at the start of August after having to cancel twice due to covid and was definitely worth the wait. It is by far the best accommodation we have stayed in. The surrounding area is beautiful - the town of Salies de Bearn is a short drive away and has everything you need - supermarket, pharmacy, bakeries, restaurants, cafes. Everyone is really friendly and the town itself is so picturesque, every building is gorgeous.
Park Cottage is really spacious and easily accommodated my family of 5 (with 3 teenagers). All 3 bedrooms are en suite with towels provided (for the pool as well). The kitchen has everything you could possibly need including washing machine with detergent and softener. All cleaning products are provided. On arrival there was a welcome package of a variety of local produce including a bottle of wine, some cheese and the most delicious tart. There is a gorgeous outside dining area and a patio area overlooking the pool. Jules and Ian were really friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble - perfect hosts.
The pool was very welcome as we experienced some very hot weather. The views from the pool are gorgeous - a wonderful place to sit, relax, read a book and drink wine. The skies at night are also amazing - for any budding astronomers out there the Milky Way is very visible as the skies are really dark. Star gazing is a must.
There is so much to do. Our highlights were Lourdes, Pic du Midi, Les Grottes de Betharram, Le Petite Train de Artouste and Orthez. And, of course, lots of laying by the pool.
I could go on and on about how wonderful it is there. You won't be disappointed. Gorgeous, stunning, beautiful, idyllic, relaxing - they all apply! Book today!!!

Orchard Cottage
We stayed at Domaine Lavie for 2 weeks in June 2019. It was an amazing holiday from start to finish! From the moment we booked Julie couldn’t have been more helpful and when we arrived couldn’t have been more welcoming and accommodating, even coming horse trekking to help us with the kids! Orchard cottage had everything you could possibly need and the view over the fields and forest was unbelievable. So relaxing and tranquil but equally close enough to all the local amenities. It was a wonderful place because you can as busy as you want but equally feel relaxed by the pool or on the terrace with a bbq! We will certainly be back in the near future!

A great place to relax recharge and generally enjoy yourself
We have just returned from 16 days at the amazing Domaine Lavie which we loved from start to finish. The owners are so welcoming and helpful but never intrusive. We stayed in Terrace Cottage which has without doubt the best view and 6 steps from the lovely pool which we welcomed on the hot days of which we had 16!
What we initially noticed was how incredibly clean and well equipped the cottage was absolutely everything you could need.
The welcome pack was fantastic especially as we arrived late so was able to get something to eat as the shops had closed. Bedding and towels pristine and great quality with a change if your staying for 2 weeks.
The area is lovely too Salies de bearn is a lovely town quaint and calm with artists painting the beautiful buildings. It's easy to get to the coast and some of the gorgeous villages and towns and never at a loss at what to do. You are not far from shops and supermarkets as well as great places to eat
We went away for tranquility and we found exactly what we were looking for just sitting looking at the view made you feel relaxed never tiring of the beauty. Wildlife was amazing watching birds of prey and the pretty birds local to the area.
My only criticism is that we didn't stay longer ❤️

A wonderful place for a big group to stay. Would defintley recommend Domaine Lavie, Salies and the surrounding area.
We were a group of 15 walking the last leg of the Le Puy route (GR65) of the Chemin of St Jacques and based ourselves in the cottage and also had the use of Maison Lavie. It worked brilliantly and Jules and Ian were on hand and incredibly helpful. Salies is a delightful and charming town and we spent a very happy morning at the market on Thursday. It's in a beautiful area with lots to do and see.

Peaceful, Spacious, Well Appointed Near Quaint Villages
My husband and I brought my sister, her husband and their two small children for a break in March. The Gite we stayed in was perfect for the six of us. It had all amenities for the baby as well as anything we could need to cook at home. Ian and Jules were generous hosts who had lots of ideas for dining, activities and day trips for our wide age range. The sparkling pool was too tempting to pass up as my nephew and I took a chilly but exhilarating early spring dip! This charming part of the world is a hidden gem and you couldn’t find a better base from which to explore it.

Once again we had a wonderful stay!
The Domaine has such an attractive appearance..pure "chateau". We always rent Park Cottage which has perfect calm but it's 10 metres to the pool! There are 3 large bedrooms and lots of space downstairs. Even a months holiday here would not exhaust all the attractions in the region. Hope to be back next year!

Beautiful setting, gorgeous cottage
We stayed in Park Cottage for 2 weeks from late July. It is a lovely old cottage with 3 large double bedrooms, all ensuite. It is furnished very well with comfortable beds, armchairs and a sofa. The kitchen has a microwave, oven, dishwasher, washing machine, 2 fridges and is well stocked with all the pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, glasses and equipment you would need for a self-catering holiday. It was also spotlessly clean. Julie made sure that basics were stocked and we appreciated the little welcome gifts she left for us.
The pool area is lovely and it was nice to have it pretty much to ourselves. We enjoyed day trips to the Pyrenees, St Jean de Luz, Lourdes and other attractions nearby. Unfortunately Salies de Bearn had suffered a very bad flood in the town earlier this summer so some of the restaurants and shops we would have liked to visit were closed. Hopefully the town will be back on its feet next time we visit.
It was a lovely relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting.

Typical French gites in a relaxing and picturesque setting.
We stayed here as 3 families with 4 boys aged between 6-9 in three of the four separate gites and had a relaxing 2 week break. Julie is a great host and was always on hand with advice on where to visit for river swims, city visits, shopping and eating and also provided a great service when we needed anything. The gites are of the typical rustic French style but have all modern conveniences including Wi-Fi. If you like to spend your days relaxing round the pool with rural views into the far distance then this is the place to go. The local town, Salies De Bearns was recovering from recent flooding which has temporaraliy closed a lot of local restaurants and shops so we didn't get to see it at its best which was a shame as it is very picturesque. Day trips out included Lourdes, a trip on the highest train in Europe up the Pyrenees and the beach at St. Jean De Luz all highly reccomended. C'est bon!

Thank you for your lovely review. It was great to have your group of 3 families to stay and a delight to see and hear (in a good way!) your boys enjoying themselves so much - and good to know that their parents managed to have a relaxing holiday too!

Ideal for a relaxing holiday with family or friends in picturesque surroundings.
We stayed in Orchard Cottage and our friends in Terrace Cottage. The accommodation had everything we needed including privacy if desired . It was spotlessly clean. The pool is large, well maintained and enjoys a southerly aspect overlooking a "sea of sun flowers" in the adjacent field. We enjoyed several evening BBQs which ended under moonlit skies.Salies de Bearn is within a few minutes drive and as well as being a delight to the eye has all facilities required . The local countryside consists of gently rolling hills of fields and woodland . The Pyrennes and the Atlantic coast are within easy driving distance.

Return visit to the Bearn region
We have just returned from a fab two week break in Orchard Cottage. The cottage offers the best of both worlds - access to a lovely pool and new friends for our 11 year old daughter, but with our own private garden & BBQ. The cottage itself is lovely, bright, airy and cool at night. A very well equipped kitchen, quality bedding & towels and lots of extra touches - welcome hamper, flowers & a bottle of local wine. A great location too, with easy access to the coast, Spain, the Pyrennes and the river. There are also some great restaurants close by. Julie & Ian are great hosts too and on hand to provide info on local events.

About the neighbourhood
There are activities galore for everyone all year round. As well as tennis, horse riding and fishing, there are 15 golf courses within an hour's drive for golfers, and miles and miles of golden sands on the nearby Atlantic coast for surfers. The magnificent scenery of the Pyrénées is an hour away for skiers, bird-watchers and walkers - or you could just stay at Domaine-de-Lavie and laze by the pool.<BR><BR>Domaine-de-Lavie is close to the picturesque town of Salies-de-Béarn. The town takes its name from the Saleys - a small tranquil river which snakes past quaint 17th and 18th-century half-timbered buildings, some of which stand on pillars on the river banks.<BR><BR>Salies-de-Béarn is known as the City of Salt. Every year, the Fête du Sel takes place during the second week of September. The whole town takes part in celebrating what they call "White Gold". Salt comes from a vast underground lake and is used to cure delicious Bayonne ham.<BR><BR>The famous "thermes" in Salies are reputed to cure all sorts of ailments. The thermal baths are open to the public for beauty treatments, as well as for the healing properties of the spas.<BR><BR>The weekly Salies market is the place to buy delicious fresh produce all year round, although many of the local delicacies can be sampled at local fêtes which are held throughout the spring, summer and autumn. The fêtes normally last several days and celebrate anything from "garbure" (the local soup) to "pipérade" (a Basque pepper stew) - all seasoned with Salies salt, of course!<BR><BR>Salies-de-Béarn is thought to date back to at least 1500BC. During the Bronze Age, a group of people settled in a muddy swamp without knowing they were actually living in a salt marsh. Salies grew in importance when the "white gold" was discovered and subsequently extracted. In 1523, much of the town was destroyed by a fire started by Spanish soldiers. In the second half of the 19th century, the "thermes" at Salies became a major draw for visitors - and remain so today. The thermal waters are enriched with salt and minerals and are said to miraculously cure certain medical problems, notably rheumatic diseases.<BR><BR>A local legend recounts the story of how salt was originally discovered at Salies. Hunters injured a boar which then managed to cross a muddy marsh before dying a little further on. When found, the dead animal's body had been completely preserved (by the salt) and was encrusted with salt crystals - and even today, salt from Salies is still used to cure the local Bayonne ham! From 4BC to 1BC, relics show that the Gallo-Romans definitely extracted salt at Salies - and the discovery of a pan for making salt dates back as far as 9AD. In 1841, salt works were built and salt-making in Salies finally became a major commercial business for the town.<BR><BR>Things to see<BR>Eglise Saint Vincent (14th-century church); the River Saleys; the Place du Bayàà; Maison Montesquiut.<BR><BR>Things to do<BR>"Fête du Sel" (2nd week of September); Musée du Sel (Salt Museum); the thermal baths.
