The photos of this stone house in the quaint Medieval french village of Beynac looked too good to be true. As it turned out, if anything, they didn't do the place justice. Mont Joie is a little piece of magic where we spent two weeks...More

We enjoyed staying at Mont Joie so much in 2014 that we planned our 2017 trip around a return to Beynac (which is the loveliest village in the Dordogne - quite a feat!) Mont Joie itself is even nicer and more charming than it appears...More

About the neighbourhood
The medieval village of Beynac is dominated by its spectacular castle, which overlooks the Dordogne valley, giving an unrestricted view over many miles of countryside, dotted with castles. The village itself clings to the steep hillside below and is an extraordinary sight to behold. You will find restaurants, antique shops, a post office, a bakery and, more recently, a small grocery store at the foot of the hillside, beside the river, and you can also take a traditional boat along the Dordogne from Beynac to discover the other castles that line this part of the river. Given its location, halfway between St-Cyprien and Sarlat, Beynac is an ideal departure point for exploring the many tourist attractions of the Périgord Noir. and Mont Joie is right in the heart of Beynac. Getting around
We recommend renting a car to get the most out of this beautiful region but we have had several guests content with staying in the village for the duration of their stay and venturing out on excursions occasionally. We can recommend an excellent tour operator who can cater a day trip to whatever you'd like. He also does airport and train station transfers.
