Ideal accommodation and location
Although we didn't actually spend a night at Skindles, we were given an extensive guided tour by the owners. The building has been lovingly and diligently restored to its historical glory by Peter and Chantal the owners. The property has a large garden and has 5 (I think) self contained suites, each over two floors as well as some communal areas on the ground floor such as the dining room and the 'smoking room'. Located just a few doors down from 'Toc H' and less than 200 metres from the Grote Markt, Skindles would make an ideal base for anyone wanting somewhere 'classy' to stay close to the town amenities while also being convenient for the WW1 sites such as the cemetery at Lijsenthoek.

Wonderful
Great place to stay with very friendly and helpful hosts Peter and Chantal. Comfortable beds, delicious breakfasts, wonderful barbecue party outside as weather was perfect. Huge garden for children to run about and play. Easy free parking off the road. Historically interesting building and lots of space inside for a talk from guides. We were a family party of 41 ranging from 10 months to over 80 years and everyone was very happy. Well done, keep up the good work and good luck.

A jewel of a place with bona fide historical significance
We have just returned from three nights at Skindles in Poperinge. The hotel can accommodate up to 24 guests across six suites of rooms. The Hotel was used as Officers quarters during the Great War; and the splendid suites and (most especially) the communal rooms sensitively honour and respect this proud heritage while offering beautiful and tasteful, comfortable and well equipped accommodation. Chantal and Peter are convivial, knowledgeable, model hosts and made our family feel thoroughly welcomed. We enjoyed exploring Poperinge and were well placed for Ypres (Ieper) for the Menin Gate and the 'In Flanders Fields' museum and the battlefields. We also visited Bethune in France to tread in the footsteps of a family forebear who was there in 1918 before travelling on to Cambrai. The building dates from the 18th century and carries its age well (although with steps and staircases consistent with such longevity). I cannot commend this venue or the owners highly enough. Bravo.

Fantastisch pand
Ideale locatie om de streek rond Ieper en Poperinge te ontdekken. Zeer ruime kamers en ruime eethoek. Gezellige bar Enkel de zithoek misten we een beetje

Steeped in history, but tastefully updated
The history of Skindles during The Great War is easily researched on Google so I won't bother to elaborate here, but having visited the property for my work with Britain At War Magazine I can confirm that it is a wonderful time capsule thatr can be enjoyed without undergoing any of the hardships that the visitors some 100 years ago underwent. Conveniently placed for visiting the sites and museums of the Ypres Salient, highly accessible, with its own parking. Normally bed and breakfast only, although Chantal, the co-owner demonstrated she can cook a brilliant evening meal for a group if persuaded. Breakfast was delightful with a choice of filter of espresso coffees. Important for some of us whose day doesn't get started until the third cup. Lovely place that I am fortunate to have visited.

Wonderful location, wonderful welcome
Stayed as part of a group in November 2016. The house has been freshly renovated and is very comfortable with large rooms and modern bathroom facilities. There is parking too which is always appreciated. The owners, Peter and Chantal, clearly love the property and the history of it which goes back several centuries, and this is reflected in the sympathetic way in which they have renovated it. Many of the rooms are suites with a sitting area; some have a mezzanine with a second bedroom. So all in all a really nice place; add to this the fantastic welcome and attentive service and you will not regret staying in Skindles.

Great for a big family get-together
We were 3 generations with at least one person per decade since 1930 but there was something for everyone in Poperinge and the surrounding area. The local swimming pool and the brewery were favorites. The house is fantastic, everyone had a fabulous time, eating, talking and relaxing; it felt like a real home. We wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you Chantel

Great spot for a family reunion
Chantelle and Peter were wonderful hosts and Skindles provided the perfect ambience for our family reunion retracing the footsteps of our Grandfather's service in WW1. Thank-you for a wonderful stay!

Fantastic accomadation especially for a large group stay !
Chantal and Peter run a lovely apartment "hotel" which is perfectly located for exploring the WW1 history of the region. We were here with a group of 15 family multigenerational members for a reunion to honour and retrace great/grandfather's WW1 history. What could have been a rather trying experience given the different ages, arrival dates , requests for 2 private catered meals and many other queries were handled with warmth and flexibility by Chantal and Pater. The accommodation is well appointed, clean and comfortable - the main living room with a piano ( Peter organised a pianist for one of the evenings which was a real treat!) and the bedroom accomadation were lovely . Note there are stairs and I would, not recommend for very young kids or older folk although my 80+ fit MIL was fine. The property is located on the middle of the town of Poperinge which has all basic amenities , cafes bakeries etc and is about a 15 min drive from Ypres. Could not recommend it highly enough for large group accomadation in this lovingly restored historic property.
