Getting around
Driving north, at 10 minutes Santa Cruz town combines beach time with shopping, plazas and art galleries, while La Laguna (20 minutes), once the capital of the island, is a Unesco World Heritage site where convents and beautifully preserved mansions dating from the 16th century sit cheek-by-jowl with tapas bars, antique shops and bookstores.
La Orotava and Puerto de la Cruz are must to visit with plazas, botanical gardens and easy access to historic centres.
Loro Park theme park at north, a worth venturing out to see the lush and greener side of Tenerife.
Less than an hour drive, Tenerife’s volcanic interior in Teide National Park, one of the best places in the world to gaze into a truly jet-black night sky and see the stars.
