Relaxing break
Absolutely beautiful cottage, enclosed garden great for our dog! Lovely views, great veranda brilliant for watching the wildlife in particular all the birds that visit. Such a peaceful area which is just what we needed and the log burner was great too. We wouldn't hesitate to book again!

Enjoyable & Good but requires some " TLC "
A few cleaning issues to attend to ! Kitchen Table " sticky " despite cleaning, a plastic / washable cover may be an option. Slabs outside entrance loose,H&S.Flood light outside at garage loose ( still works ) but bangs in the wind ! Otherwise an enjoyable stay. Dogs had fun too.Rain & Mist for 5 days need to return to see the landscape !!

Hi Thanks for taking time to leave a review and giving us 4 bubbles! We are glad you had an enjoyable stay and the dogs enjoyed it too! We always ask guests to report problems if they occur. Obviously if you don`t tell us things are broken we cant fix them for you!! I was told by our housekeeper at 11.45 am on Sat 3rd Nov that the garage light was loose, I organised to have it fixed and it was back secured by 16.15 on the same day! As far as needing tlc. We freshen up the rooms every year at the end of the season it is often not possible to do that while guests are staying. The "sticky table" is not a cleaning issue, it appears the summer sun (or something else)has affected the surface coating and we are in the process of changing it. Sorry the weather prevented you seeing the scenery in all its glory. It is really stunning on a good day to see the Cuillin mountain range from the front garden and the sea view of Loch Harport from the rear!!

Excellent pet-friendly well equipped cottage
Amazing quiet location with stunning views over Loch Harport. The cottage was very well equipped, comfortable, roomy and relaxing. We would definitely recommend Glendale cottage and we would like to go again ourselves. The cottage is dog friendly and our dog enjoyed the freedom of a fully secured garden. A perfect base for exploring the beautiful Isle of Skye.

Comfortable and roomy cottage in a superb location
Great cottage with terrace and fab views out to Loch Harport. We were a couple staying there with 3 other friends , so having 2 bathrooms was ideal. The cottage is also very near the Taigh Ailean hotel , nice to ago for a drink or eat if you don't fancy cooking. Lovely terrace to sit out in the sunshine look at the view and listen to the birds. We were outdoor types so cottage is well placed near the middle of the island , not far from Glenbrittle or Sligachan for walking/climbing. Kitchen well equipped for self catering, only thing missing was a measuring jug! All in all we had a great week there , we all said we would come to Glendale Cottage again.

Well located. Easy walking distance to a great lcoal pub which provided home made good food and real ale. Beautiful views over the loch and views of the Cullin mountains. Easy reach of the Talisker distillary. In good weather can sit on a peaceful balcony to admire the views.

Great Experience
We would definitely recommend this cottage. very clean and spacious and perfectly situated to explore the Island. ample supply of towels, logs for the wood burner and it made a change to have the basics supplied in abundance ie soap, washing up liquid etc. The location was pretty perfect for exploring the island and also travelling the half hour to Portree to stock up on the big things, however a very well stocked little shop in Carbost ( close to the distillery) only a 5 minute drive Local pub was 2 minutes walk and the food and atmosphere was good. Great that we could take our mini schnauzers, cottage is dog friendly but absolutely no hint that others with dogs had stayed there - it was spotless There were 5 of us - 2 adults and 3 grown up kids and there was ample room for us all We'll be back

Relaxing Pet Friendly Cottage
A very comfortable stay with every amenity you could ask for. A real bonus, in my opinion some of the best food on the island only 250m walk away in the Taigh Ailean Hotel. Will book again.

About the neighbourhood
The picturesque crofting community of Portnalong lies in the Minginish peninsula to the west of Skye. It is only 3 miles north of Carbost where Skye's oldest Whisky Distillery is located and a half hour drive to Portree, making it a perfect base to explore the island. The communities in Minginish are scattered along the coastline of Loch Harport and and offer stunning views of the Cuillin mountains, Macleod's Tables and Loch Bracadale. Portnalong attracts many hill climbers and walkers due to its proximity to the Cuillin mountains but it is also perfect for getting to Talisker Bay and Glenbrittle Beach. For those interested in water activities, there is a pier and slipway at Portnalong, ideal for launching boats and kayaks.
Getting around
There is a limited local bus service and taxi hire, however own transport is recommended.

How to get there
The quickest and recommended way to get to Portnalong is to drive as it is easier to get around with a car when you get there. From Glasgow the journey takes just over 5 hours, but a stopover in Fort William to stretch the legs is always welcome. Buses run 3 times a day from Inverness or Glasgow to Portree and a train runs from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland. Once over the Skye Bridge go right on the A87 in the direction of Broadford. Just after Sconser, take a left turn at Sligachan on to the A863. After about 7 miles, take the left turn on to the B8009 to the Minginish Peninsula & Tattie Bogle Trail. Follow the road through Carbost and head up the hill just after the Talisker Distillery towards Portnalong. After about 3 miles, there is a junction, take the left road to Fiscavaig. Glendale is the first house on the right immediately after this junction - it is easily identified by the semi circular drive.
