The Old Post Office lies in the heart of Glenelg, opposite the village store and a minutes walk from the Glenelg Inn. Built in 1723 to house the English Captains stationed at nearby Bernera barracks following the Jacobite uprisings, this historic cottage provides the perfect base for walking, cycling, bird watching and sightseeing,

A gentle stroll down the single-tracked lane takes you down along the sea front to a quiet pebbled beach with crystal clear water and breath taking views over to Skye. A perfect spot for a bracing swim or a beach bar-b-que.
A short bike ride inland brings you to two Pictish Brochs and further along the coast a leisurely walk through woodland brings you to Sandaig, former home to author Gavin Maxwell who wrote 'Ring of Bright Waters' For serious walkers, climb the Five sisters of Kintail or explore...

About the neighbourhood
We have wonderful holidays in Glenelg. There is so much to do in and around the village and the locals are very friendly! The village beach is pebbly with crystal clear water. The water is COLD but swimming is possible, particularly at the end of the summer when the water is warmer. Our children spend hours building stone sculptures and shell collecting is also high on the beach agenda as is crabbing from the jetty where some monster crabs have been caught at high tide. Theres always plenty of firewood for beach fires (village store normally has supply of marshmallows for toasting) and our little green bucket bar-b-que is great for al fresco eating. Its also a great spot for spotting porpoises and other wildlife.

Our other favourite beach is at Sandaig where author Gavin Maxwell lived wit...

How to get there
From Edinburgh: Take the M9; exit Junction 10, Callander & Crianlarich onto A84. Follow A84 which becomes A85 to Crianlarich and continue on A82 through Glencoe and on to Fort William.

(There are good rest breaks at Tyndrum (Green Welly Stop) and at the Glencoe National Trust visitors Centre just before Glencoe village. Also very easy MacDonalds in Fort William!)

From Fort William follow the A82 for Spean Bridge and Inverness.
At Invergarry turn left on to the A87 and follow signs for Kyle of Lochalsh.
At Shiel Bridge turn left, signposted Glenelg. (there is a petrol station before the turn off on the left and signposts for the Glenelg ferry)

This very steep road takes you up and over Mam Ratagan. Great views of the 5 sisters of Kintail when you get to the top. And then down into...
