Pouzauges, Vendee, Pays de la Loire
La Godiniére is a small, very quiet, rural French hamlet set in the eastern Vendée region of the Pays-de-la-Loire. Life here is peaceful, slow and quintessentially French with the local bread van calling most days announcing it's arrival with the blast of its horn. A small stream babbles along in the valley, buzzards fly overhead and the lack of light pollution makes the night sky come alive. A lovely stay. The house is in a tiny hamlet and you get a sense of living in the real France! The bread van comes most mornings but the SuperU is just 10 minutes away in Pouzauges. We swam and kayaked in the local lakes and rives and had a restful, tranquil stay. Puy du Fou 25 mins away and an hour to La Rochelle for a more upmarket day trip. A great holiday!

There are several places to eat, a trail that takes you around the city, indoor swimming pool and lake to enjoy during the warmer months. Further afield lies Chantonney to the west, La Chatainagrie to the south and further on Fonteney le Compte with its saturday morning market. All are within 30 minutes easy drive and have either a Super or Hyper U supermarket. Les Herbiers to the north during the summer offers a swimming pool complex with outdoor pools, slides, pool dancing and wave area.
