Lovely pet-friendly accommodation
We stayed for two nights and were very pleasantly surprised on arrival. The lodge was really well fitted out and equipped, and perfectly dog friendly. The location is a little off the beaten track, but only a short drive from Cockermouth and a little further to Keswick. Stunning open scenery surrounds the park, perfect for leisurely walks or slightly challenging runs (lots of undulating!). We have stayed in lots of different self catering accommodation so brought essentials with us, but we didn’t need some of them as the lodge was already equipped with tea, milk and sugar, a Tassimo machine with pods, all dishwashing equipment, soap, and a gorgeous doggy welcome basket. Finding the park was simple, and the site was easy to navigate and plenty of parking was available. Would love to come back to this lovely little get-away.

Dobby Lodge
Overall the Dobby Lodge was very good. There are two things you need to be aware of; 1- the beds in this lodge are very high. I'm 5ft 6in and I struggled to climb onto the bed. 2- to turn on the radiators you must press down on the valves of the radiators to turn them on. Other than than we had a good time. Next time we'll choose a platinum caravan.

Beware! They left us up the creek without a paddle! Shameful!
My partner and I always holiday with our two elderly mothers, who are in their 80s and 90s. We also have a springer spaniel. Consequently, we are always looking for accommodation (usually a lodge) with three bedrooms and that is also pet friendly. We typically take four 1-week holidays each year. Given our requirements, we always make sure that we book well in advance, even when we are looking at off-peak times of year. Cumbria, as my mother's native county, is a regular destination for our holidays and we usually spend two of our annual breaks there. We had not stayed at Skiddaw View Holiday Park previously, but we had seen it on the BBC's "Home from Home" sitcom. Having looked at the website we saw that they had one three-bedroomed, pet friendly lodge, so we decided to book our autumn holiday there. As usual, we made the reservation well in advance - a little over 9 months before the date we would be taking the holiday. The deposit to secure the booking was made and all was well ... or so we thought. We received a couple of e-mail communications from Stay Lakeland (the managers of Skiddaw View Holiday Park) over the subsequent months. The first, in June, related to changes in terms and conditions resulting from the Covid-19 situation and assuring us that they appreciated our 'concerns in the current climate and as a result we have revised our terms and conditions and extend these to you in the belief that this will give you the confidence to settle your holiday balance as planned and ultimately enjoy your holiday.' The only other communication came in August, just a few days before our final balance was due to be paid. The e-mail was simply to remind us of that fact and to inform us that we could either pay the balance online or over the phone. I chose to pick up the phone and make the final payment that way ... and thank goodness I did! In spite of having only just written to us to request our final balance payment, Skiddaw View Holiday Park informed me that there was a problem with our booking. When I enquired as to the nature of the problem they informed me that ... THE ACCOMMODATION WE HAD BOOKED HAD BEEN SOLD! I was flabbergasted. "And when were you planning to tell us this, exactly?" I asked. "Well, there is a note on the file that we need to give you a call," was the totally inadequate response. "I could see if we have any alternative accommodation for you." "But you don't have any other three-bedroomed lodges, do you?" I replied. "No, we don't." "So, you can't offer me anything suitable, can you?" "No, sorry." And so - just a few short weeks before our holiday and too late in the day to have any realistic chance of finding a suitable alternative - we were left up the creek without a paddle. Shameful!

Nice lodge, would recommend
This lodge offered a nice layout, good furnishings and was overall really nice. The wood cladding made it look a bit more upmarket than the other lodges on-site, which are green plastic-clad. The interior was clean and well-presented, with nice furnishings. Decent kitchen with a kettle, coffee machine (with some complimentary pods), microwave, gas hob and oven and (blissfully) a dishwasher. Plenty of crockery and cutlery with basic cooking utensils, pans and baking sheets also supplied. The bedrooms were nice, only slight issue could be how close the double bed is to the wardrobe doors, but I didn't use it so fine for me. Lounge sofa was large and comfy. The fire is electric and set up only to be a visual light effect. You could fiddle with it to produce heat, but the heating system was very effective so I didn't bother. Blinds were generally ok although one near the dining table was damaged (but not an issue) and the main one in the lounge had a damaged pull cord so you couldn't lift the blind out of the way to use the big sliding door onto the deck. Not a problem in October so didn't bother reporting it at the time, but a shame; the dog would have loved it. Bathroom nicely roomy. The shower over the bath was hung over the middle rather than at one end but it did mean you didn't have taps at one end digging into your back or feet while bathing. Lovely and dog-friendly - when I arrived they had left a dog towel, blanket, bowls and a roll of poo bags to use, as well as a bag of treats! The lodge was an easy walk to the poo bin (though not in smell range, although there wasn't any smell coming from it anyway). There was also a welcome box for humans with biscuits, a wee box of Lindt Lindor (yum!) and the coffee pods, plus a few UHT milks. All in all, a lovely stay, with easy driving distance to Cockermouth, Keswick, Buttermere, Bassenthwaite, and other lakes.

Fantastic, pet friendly lodge
From the moment we opened the door, we fell in love with Dobby Lodge ! The interior has been lovingly and tastefully decorated and has everything in it you could want to make for a wonderful holiday. Wurzel the dog felt right at home straight away, and we were very impressed at the amount of places in the area that dogs are made very welcome. Great location, away from the towns but close enough to get to in within a 10 - 15 minute drive. Beautifull views all around and a really nice dog walking area on site. Would highly recommend this site and will definitely return to the stunning Dobby Lodge ! ❤️

Dobby Lodge
We spent three nights in this lovely well equipped lodge with our two dogs. Just outside the national park but within easy reach of Keswick, Cockermouth and the beautiful Buttermere. Very dog friendly. Would definitely visit again. Our daughter loved Fidel the alpaca and the goats!

DOBBYTASTIC......Dog Friendly
A most beutifully stylish Cedar lined Lodge in a quiet caravan park with some lovely views. Dog friendly......upon arrival we were really pleased to see a free welcome pack for our faithful companion had been provided(Blanket/Chews/Treats) as well as a small box of freebies for us(Tea/Coffee/Biscuits/Chocolates). The Lodge was very clean and comfortable with all essentials provided .(Oven/Fridge Freezer/Microwave/Cleaning items/etc). We were there for a week and it would have been helpful if an iron and ironing board were provided however. The site is about 24 miles from Carlisle and 12 from Keswick and has some dog friendly pubs nearby that serve really good food. The owners were very friendly and helpful and I would whole heartedly recommend this place

Fabulous! Fabulous! Fabulous!
Just arrived home after staying in Dobby Lodge 3 this week. Located in the north of the Lakes it was very accessible yet extremely peaceful and picturesque. On arrival, we received a warm welcome and found the lodge easily. On entry we were truly amazed at how fabulous it was. Contemporary interior, very comfortable and beautifully presented. Bedrooms spacious and spotless. Main living area was very welcoming with dining/kitchen area super. Everything needed was in the kitchen, even down to dishwasher tablets and drying towels. Jake our dog loved the welcome basket and took ages eating the gigantic chew treat left for him. Handy for fabulous walks and trails. The site was clean, tidy and well spaced. There’s also a pet corner and alpaca for any children guests too. We can’t wait to visit again.
