Travelers who are interested in renting a car for use in State College should know two things. The first is that a car is really not a necessity for getting around the area. See http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g53... for additional information about alternatives to getting around. The second is that car rental is almost always taken care of at the airport upon arrival in the area. Visitors arriving via methods other than the airport should make their way out to the airport if they want to rent a car. There are three car rental companies located at the airport (Avis: www.avis.com , Hertz: www.hertz.com and National: www.nationalcar.com . Entreprise (www.enterprise.com) has also a rental office in North Artherthon (corner with 215 Blue Course Dr). They have a drop off service, so they can pick you up at your place or bring you back. The price is included in the rental. They have a limited amount of car, so it is suggested to book a car in advance.
All of these companies offer different rates and specials so visitors should shop between the three to get the best deals. Visitors who opt to take advantage of this option should further know that parking in State College can be difficult, so patience is required. In particula the parking on campus is limited and during events (footbal game in particular) parking prices gets really high. Visitors needing information on local road conditions should call (814) 355-6044 .
Travelers who do not wish to rent a car will find that taxis are a suitable alternative. Taxis can sometimes be found on the streets near campus, especially at night on the weekends, ad at the airport. Different companies of taxi are active:
